I am three months post op after a mechanical heart value replacement (49 years old) and have had my first ever bit of chest pain today, like tightness where the heart is. I am at rehab tomorrow so will talk to them about what I should do if anything (also seeing a specialist in a couple of weeks). I just wondered if anybody else had experienced this out of the blue after heart surgery, I didn’t have any chest pain before the surgery so it’s strange and a bit scary!

Hello, I was 71 when i had my CABG LIMA to LAD. Dr did not stop my heart but used an instrument to steady my heart while he connected the LIMA TO LAD. I was awake in ICU when put me in there. I was good. daughter beside my bed. was good. but sick to stomach.
Had CARDIAC rehab 3times a week. incision does hurt and I feel the pressure in the incision at times when I do exercises for my arms, my chest. They said it was from incision nerves in the chest. The incision in between my breast pulls every now and then because of fatty breast.
I did not experience chest pain before the procedure. NO pain no pressure. blood work all good. but crap happened.
Take heart, maintain a good attitude and above all have hope. you have another day.
side note,. Keep your breast supported even if you have to tape them to keep them from moving. I tried many bras and for about a month after surgery I wrapped my breast. You will pull the incision and keep it from healing right away.
I am a year from OHS and last few months suffering from a deep pain left side chest , the doctors think it’s muscular but at times it can be painful to breathe …it is being monitored and is probably just something still mending from such major surgery I have started using KTape when I exercise etc
Thanks you both for the replies, it’s much appreciated 😊 I managed to get a GP appointment and she said she doesn’t know what it is but it’s probably musculoskeletal rather than cardiac. I hope so 😆
I very much didn’t want any detail before my OHS about what was involved, perhaps this hasn’t helped my understanding about all the aches and pains you get for ages afterwards!
