Hi I am just over a year from Aortic Valve and Root replacement ( OHS) but over the last few months I get chest pain on my left side and becomes painful to breathe , it seems to be brought on during activities such as Golf or maybe lifting something heavy maybe a shopping bag , just wondering if anyone else with similar surgery has experienced the same , other then the normal chest , back and shoulder pain in the first few months after surgery?

thank you in advance Jeremy

Dear J

Do have a thought that maybe your issues are nothing to do with AVR. I recovered very nicely in three months then gradually increased my strength and mobility. I then spent two years with issues that I took to be AVR things. I should have looked at everything else as my issues were not AVR related. But I didn’t grasp that. I have small vessel decease and early onset diabetes and early stages of parkinsons plus some bits from a stroke four years before AVR. . All vaguely linked but my AVR is 100% good after four years. What a fabulous op. And very safe.

Just a thought.

Hello mate, I am eleven years post oh surgery (aortic dissection) and occasionally still experience the symptoms you describe but they are now very few and far between, I used to have a bit of a panic but I just wait for it to subside now ( I also play a bit of golf). I would give the heavy lifting a miss if I were you, all the best 🏌️‍♂️

I suggest you talk to the BHF Heart Helpline nurse who will be able to give you a professional opinion on your situation particularly if it is heart related. Otherwise speak to your GP .
