Hi, I had a heart attack in April, one stent. I have just finished my rehab, and am also very very tired. The nurses didn’t really seem to have the answers, but said I should go to my gp and be checked for all of the usual other things - iron, vit d etc. I will do so, but I am pretty sure it’s to do with my meds, they are happy with the progress my heart is making, so not that. I am just hoping I will get used to the meds over time. Rehab was great fun, also very reassuring - I discovered I can do far more than I thought. I am sad it is over, and will definitely continue at home. Also I can carry on doing the classes (at a different time) if I pay a small amount, and I am going to do I can still be in the group, it’s very reassuring. Good luck, I think you will enjoy it. Also I found even on the tired days, doing exercise seemed to give me energy
Hi Dolly, sorry to hear you’re feeling so fatigued post procedure. Have you checked your blood pressure , does it drop when you feel so tired ?
I had a reaction to my meds and eventually had some changes as I getting quite screw side effects including fatigue/zombie episodes. Perhaps you could chat with the BHF online nurses , they are excellent (even a phone call ) get their advice then take it up with your medical team ? Keep us posted Dolly .
Beta blockers make you feel tired, I tend to feel as if I need an afternoon nap now, I’m a year on from my surgery. It does get better but we have to learn to live with some changes to our lives.
Hi there just a quick 1, I had my HA in April with 3 stents fitted, like you I was tired all the time so they took me off the beta blockers and I feel absolutely fine, the rehab is a must and nothing to be nervous about or worry, take it easy and don't rush things.
Hi Rickstar did they put you on any alternative beta blocker? Who took you of it your GP myy beta blocker bisoprolol makes me feel unusual I think it drops my BP to low.
If I sit down for a while after lunch I can guarantee I'll fall asleep. I'm putting it down to the Bisoprolol.
I'm supposed to avoid high potassium foods but that's very difficult as they include things like spinach and kale plus vine fruits such as tomatoes and cucumbers. Apples and Oranges, root vegetables such as carrots and potatoes can also be an issue. All these thing I consume on a regular basis. So far my solution has been to have smaller meals (which in my case is no bad thing) but, so far, tiredness is still a significant issue.
It's only been 40 days since my operation so, at present, I'm not worrying about it. Recovery times vary for everyone.
I agree likely to be the meds with beta blockers the chief suspect. I asked for a reduced dose in order to function. What I was given after a HA was far too high for me. Everyone gets given the same and it has to be tweaked for individuals.
I have had two HA and two stents. In the beginning I was so tired but it’s just what your body needs. It is a shock to the system. And getting your head round what has happened. So I used to just go for a wee nap. Medication will make you tired too. The tiredness does ease in time.
Cardiac rehab built up my confidence to do more things, helps with physical and mental health. You meet a lot of lovely people in the same boat and learn of their cardiac journey. The cardiac nurses are so helpful and any questions they will answer.
Still early days so please just take one day at a time. Rest when you can.
Bisopralol made me feel like that. I cold barely get out of my chair; just wanted to sleep all the time. Ask at rehab about possible changing it if your heart rate is low.
Hi, it'd be worth a chat with your GP/Cardiologist re the fatigue. Quite a few of the meds we get prescribed post heart event will list fatigue as a possible side effect. In my case it was the Bisoprolol which was the chief culprit and I felt much better after that was stopped (because it was sending my RHR very low). I was also diagnosed with a Vit D deficiency and advised, by the GP, to take a daily supplement. I've also had several chat with the (excellent) practice pharmacist who has also tweaked my meds.
With regard to rehab, I'm a massive advocate for it. It really helped me get back on my feet.
