Anyone else noticed that every single advert break during the coverage of the Euros has a McDonald's advert?
It's very difficult to try to eat and be healthy when constantly exposed to junk food advertising at every turn. Personally never found Maccy D appealing but surely watching sports, some adverts for healthier food and drink would be more appropriate?
Just my little rant today ahead of yet another patchy on pitch performance by you know who 😉

England are supporting M&S Healthy eating range if that helps and M&S do these burgers called skinny burgers which are really nice and better than a Mac Donalds and taste better not like cardboard
It could very well be a patchy performance tonight but we are through anyway how ever we play with the scores yesterday from other countries but how long for I would guess they need to make sure their suitcases are packed
Hope you have a lovely day and if you fancy a Burger look at the skinny ones at M&S ( other supermarkets are available ) x
When I fancy a burger I have the skinny one's from the eat well section and to be honest all the family like them and say they are better than Mac donalds ones
Treat yourself if you don't try them you will never know
just commenting on the burger - I haven’t had a Mac since about 1977. My butcher makes his own on the premises and so I know there’s nothing yucky in them. Cost £4 for 3 burgers, then you have to add cost of grilling or frying them. Cutting down on carbs so no bun. Add some ketchup = lovely!
Wow that's cheap for such quality and no gristle and offcuts. Now if they could just cut down on the football or move it to a minor channel, all would be great.
It does take up rather a lot of prime airtime. I would say it keeps my husband quiet for a month, but he gets quite vocal at times - last night was a nightmare
I wonder how effective the constant repetitive advertising is? The three-week Tour de France starts soon and I'll be watching the daily highlights. In previous years it's been the same two or three ads and they very soon cease to make any impression. Often I record the coverage, and 15 minutes into the programme I start to watch my recording, fast-forwarding through the ads.
I found the answer was to stop watching football. Simple as that no adverts, no pundits spouting nonsense, no feelings of "that was inevitable" when England are knocked out.
McDonalds aren't even real burgers but a meat patty containing goodness what animal remains. Add to that they pour salt over the fried when asked not to. I find it strange people find McDonalds addictive as I find the opposite.
I find this condemnation of red meat odd. If you look at the ingredients closely you can get 5% fat steaks and mince but some factory chicken (utter cruelty) is 10% as the poor animals can't exercise!
Hello Bruce67 yes you make a valid point. Watch sport yet encouraged to eat processed food but like many replies say already, it’s just all about sponsorship and money. However, when I’ve been to football games and I’m just back from a hol in the USA where I watched a baseball game, all the foods on offer are pies (UK) or hot dogs, fried chicken, chips, burgers and I must say the smell of the grease is just so off putting. There’s no encouragement for kids to eat healthy or anyone for that matter at the games, yet you’d think where sport is involved, there would be a better food choice….. or is it a tradition - pie, hot dog and a beer at a game? I usually just eat before I go to the football but must admit in the USA I did have a hot dog - first one in about 5 years and have to say it was delicious but I did feel guilty afterwards. Hopefully a one off won’t clog me up, it was a holiday treat 🙄! Best wishes ❤️🧚🏼♀️
always make my own burgers and have never had a takeaway in my life, yet here I am. Some people eat healthily and some prefer McD and that will always be so.
I agree last time I had a McDonalds was over 20 years ago and didn't enjoy it it was greasy and chips over salted. TV channels must be getting hundreds of thousands from these advert.
I have noticed the Coke cola ads centre more on healthy eating and family.
It does you good to have a rant about things as it's clears your mind well that's my theory. 😊
since my diagnosis I wonder why they even make food with loaded sugar, caffeine, sugar and salt!!! I know it’s very impractical but I have seen the light!!! Just wish I’d payed attention to it sooner!! 😊
I don't like their food at all but surely as a legitimate tax paying company they have as much right as the next legitimate company to advertise where and when they can, the country is already too much of a nanny state. P.S. my wife makes the most beautiful burgers with 3% lean mince, Italian herbs and smoked paprika served on rye and spelt sourdough rolls, a rare but very welcome treat that thrashes Mac D's on flavour and health. If her advertising campaign was anywhere as good as Mac D's she would be a very wealthy woman 😆
I think I have the answer. About thirty years ago I got rid of my television and I've never replaced it. I don't eat burgers anyway. Steaks and chops for me. Also bacon and eggs pretty much every day. Chicken thighs, etc. But all home cooked, no takeaways ever. And it's just cricket for me, no football or Olympics or whatever, I couldn't care less about professional "sport".
Yep, I know. Also it's as if those in charge view County Cricket as an annoyance, getting in the way of other more lucrative much shorter versions. I'm a four, five, or one day man myself. All played in summer.
Advertising certainly wouldn't induce me to cross the threshold. The horrendous stench that emanates from their places is enough for me. The queues of vehicles outside waiting to indulge never ceases to amaze me. Yuck!
I love the idea that advertising is there to promote healthy eating. Sports events and similar take from big companies that’ll give the most money. It’s always about the money. Otherwise most schools and hospitals would offer healthy meals and still after much campaigning they continue not to. My kids secondary had a machine from Nestle and then wondered why the kids were wired on caffeine all day. I objected and was told they pay to have it there and they can’t afford to say no.
I think it's quite reasonable to post it on here. When BHF has launched the England (Scotland) 'til I died campaign, it's rather soul-destroying to see McDonalds as a major sponsor of the Euros, with all the advertising that entails.
can't beat a McDonald's breakfast as a dirty naughty treat
Resist! TV is there to brainwash you to make you consume or inject things you don't need and are bad for your health.
Like it or not, adverts pay for commercial TV and increase viewers choice, but they have to meet advertising standards criteria. Its been that way in the UK for 70 years or so. However no-one is forced to watch TV and the same goes for watching adverts. If you don't like the adverts on commercial channels, find something else to do whilst they are on, or switch over or even switch off. That's what I do, although I rarely watch live TV, less so the commercial channels, and so adverts don't bother me in the slightest because I don't watch them. As for adverts promoting potentially poor life style choices, if you are savvy enough to know different, it shouldn't affect you. And I doubt that saturation McDonalds adverts are going to encourage more people to go. The sort of person who eats in McDonalds is hardly likely to frequent them even more, and those who choose not to go, like me, are not going to be encouraged to visit because of an advert.
I have to say that you do make an excellent point about advertising healthier snacks/foods even during sporting events.
I am an American, and I actually live one block from a McDonald’s, two blocks from a Burger King, and two from a Dunkin’s Doughnuts. At times, it can seem like crossing a mine field. 😊
When I was younger, I worked full time, attended graduate school full time, and had two young children. It is fair to say that I likely visited, bought and ate too much fast food. In general, I would guess that too many Americans eat too much quick snacks/foods. I am sure that my diet helped contribute to my HA two years ago.
At this point, I don’t eat burgers or most meat. I do sometimes have turkey sandwiches at home, and, if I ever have a burger, I buy the lowest fat content ground beef and make my own at home. I still struggle with carbs/sugars. Since January, I have tried to cut out added sugar foods, but it can be really hard.
I agree that advertising would help if they pushed more healthy food choices and recipes.
