I had to have 5 cortisone injections into my ankle and metasal due to arthritis. I’ve noticed that since I had them my heart rate really drops. I’m 70 yrs old but noticed my resting heart rate drops to 44 - 56. It does rise during day. I had this before in February when I had a nerve block done.
is this normal with steroids??
thank you.

I’m actually awaiting cortisone injections in my ankle due to severe arthritis (how long I will have to wait is anybody’s guess!) I had a PM fitted due to occasional low heart rate , it dropped to 38 whilst I was having a knee replacement done so they decided a PM was the best option.
However, I’m interested in how effective the injections have been, my alternative is either a Fusion or a replacement, but they want to try this first.
The PM works fine after a couple of adjustments and my monitor shows the rate is steady the base rate is set at 50, but it only gets near if I’m asleep.
thank you for replying. I’m sorry I’m just getting around to replying to you but I’ve had company staying for their holidays.
The injections can be hit and miss. First time results were amazing lasted around 6 years. This time the metatarsal not so good but thankfully my ankle bones are great. No more pain and swelling which is a bonus.
I’m glad your PM is working better after the tweaking.
you might get some information from one of the arthritis charities’ websites (such as Versus Arthritis or Arthritis Action) but otherwise I think a chat to a medical person is indicated.
