Raised Blood Pressure on Nifidipine

was previously on ramipril in order to medicate as stage 1 hypertensive and needed protection as had Thoraic Ascending Aneurysm. My BP on this averages around 120/80. The TAA was repaired last year with OHS. In order to counteract oesophageal issues I now take Nifidipine which is a calcium channel blocker. I also take a diuretic. However my BP raised to averages of 137/85 with no change to diet or exercise. Going back to GP as we recognised when we switched that we needed to monitor. Anyone with experience on this matter?

Nifedipine mainly works on the smaller blood vessels - I take it for my Raynauds. I have found it to have minimal effect on my BP, indeed no more than 5 points on both diastolic and systolic. The hard work is done by the Losartan that I take as my main BP control medication.

It seems to me that the rise in your BP is probably due to removing Ramipril from your prescription and replacing it with a diuretic rather than anything to do with the Nifedipine. Maybe your GP can prescribe you something other than a diuretic to control your BP or if you are prone to water retention, then something to work alongside the diuretic.

Just my thoughts based on my personal experience.
