Blood pressure
How was your diet? You could be sensitive to the food you eat! Or stressed both can increase blood pressure significantly. The lower part of your bp is high. Why don’t you ask your gp to put a 24 hour bp machine which will give a much better average that gp’s can work from
I haven't been at all stressed in fact I've been on holiday and been really relaxed I think I will see what BP is at heart class next week if it's still high I will go and ask doctor thanks for your reply
While on holiday, was the local diet saltier?
I wasn't as strict as I am at home so yes possibly would eating differently for just a week affect my BP then??
If its high in salt, saturated fat (take outs) then yes. It could also be that we are more sensitive so we have to be extra careful unfortunately.
The older you are, the more susceptible?
All my mother has to have is one meal off her usual low sodium diet and her next BP take several hours later will be higher. She is not on BP meds. She's in her 80s.
If you were eating saltier the entire week, ya definitely possible. Once back on regular diet, it should return to the usual, if the different diet is the culprit.
All the best!
Did you drink more alcohol and less water whilst on holiday? Ensuring you’re well hydrated keeps BP lower.
One high reading is nothing to worry about. If you have a home monitor I suggest taking 3 readings a day at different times and taking a week's worth to your GP. They will work out the average. I've had readings like that one when I was sure I wasn't stressed but something small hd made it spike just for a few minutes. Your BP changes all the time, after a cup of tea, eating something, even being startled by the phone
I agree with Qualipop, one reading is nothing to worry about, blood pressure alters all the time. I recently had to monitor mine for 6 days, two readings in the morning & 2 in the evening at the request of my cardiologist because there was a query as to whether I should go back on blood pressure tablets nearly a year after a bypass operation. My GP thought I should & the cardiologist said no I shouldn’t!
After I sent the readings in which varied quite a bit to the cardiologist he wrote back & said the average blood pressure was fine & not to take BP tablets at the moment. Please try not to worry, mine varied quite a bit at Cardiac Rehab as well. I still do monitor the BP readings occasionally.

Because blood pressure is dynamic, eg. you could do three readings in a row and get three different results, doctors use an average of your bp readings and call that your bp. It's my understanding that all your readings have to be high, over 160/90, for it to be a concern, and an average that is high, even if it's not terribly high, will be enough for some doctors to put you on meds. while other docs will encourage lifestyle changes first.
I am already on medication have been since my HA I'm on rampril and bisoprolol
I'm on Ramipril too , have been for several years. My BP can vary considerably between 120/80 to 140/90 . I'm 66 female , healthy diet, healthy size and reasonably active .
I would not worry at all unless it's consistently on the high side.
Thanks for reply like you say best not to worry unless it's constantly high it's just annoying when it's been so good for so long
I try to look at it this way. Our bodies are probably not designed to stay the same day in day out. Even a very healthy person can see daily fluctuations in her BP, lipids, body weight , as there are so many factors that can make these things fluctuate.
