gp switched me fro omeprazole to lanzoprazole a few weeks ago . I seem to have developed very loose bowels every morning . I have recently been prescribed folic acid for low folate ? Has anyone had this side effect to either of these 2 meds please ?

After my TAVI in July, I had stomach bloating, violent wind and slight constipation. My surgeon twice insisted that I didn't need Lansoprazole, my GP was adamant that I did, and around October-time I started taking the tablets, with improvements within 48 hours. There's just a suggestion of constipation now and then, but when I feel the need to go it's best that I do so within a few minutes! The results are slightly loose.

I've been taking ferrous fumarate tablets for seven years or so.

The leaflet that comes with the lansoprazole tablets advises that up one in ten people experience diarrhoea - or constipation.

I also take lansoprazole for reflux disease and on alternate months folic acid for B9 deficiency but don't suffer from any regular unusual bowel movements, occasional like most people yes, regular no. You haven't told us why you were moved from omeprazole to lansoprazole. If it's because you are taking clopidogrel, which interacts with omeprazole, your GP will be unable to change back. I was changed from esomeprazole to lansoprazole after my HA since that also interacts with clopidogrel which I was prescribed at the time. And you haven't told us why you are prescribed PPIs. if it's to 'settle the stomach' due to medication you could try doing without as a trial with your GP's input of course to see if you really need it. Finally you could also drop the folic acid as a trial, separately, since a short period without won't make much difference. Folic acid uptake is very slow within the body and further you don't really need to take it regularly in the large dose delivered by the prescription tabs, thats why I take it on alternate months. But again discuss this with your GP.

I’m gonna try cutting out the folic acid for afew days , see if it makes a difference . I’ve suffered really bad with gastric reflux for years . I am now on clopidogrel since the stent was fitted , so I think that’s why they switched the ppi

I had very loose bowels and horrendous stomach ache when I was in lanzoprozole. Tried it twice so I know that what was causing the problems. I was switched to pantoprozole and have had no problems with that. Worth asking if you can change as I believe it's ok to take with clopidogrel

I can't tolerate any PPIs, but Lansoprazole is the worst. It gave me terrible diahorrea, but I didn't realise that was the cause and ended up being violently sick if I took it.

I wasn’t sick , just diarrhea like water everyday . I was on omeprazole for years with no problems , but they switched me to lanzoprazole as I’m taking clopidogrel . I’m goi g to see if I can try pantaprazole instead . Sick of all these drugs and different side effects 😡

I wasn't sick until I had persisted for a few months. Ended up having to endure a colonoscopy and gastroscopy as I lost over 20lbs, and even though I thought I'd identified the reason I had to have the tests as my brother died from bowel cancer.

I don't think I ever had any problems with them I only take them when I get stomach some times I used to take 6 in a day but now I only take 2 when I have stomach pain I find it's best to take them with hot water
