Good morning wonderful peole. I had NSTEMI March and on the protocol meds. clopidogrel bisopropol aspirin Lansoprozole isosorbide on morning and ramipril and rosuvastatin evening. I wasn't doing too well as BP was really low so GP reduced ramipril now on 1.25 which has helped for some symptoms but I am still suffering daily with a burning sensation in my upper stomach most days. I eat before taking any tablets and always take plenty if fluids. But just about every day I wake up with this burning. Does anyone else suffer with this from meds ? Thanks.

I also take Gaviscon (double action) with my Omeprazole as advised by a doctor but only when it’s really necessary. This could be something to discuss with your doctor?

If your symptoms do not improve, I would suggest speaking to your doctor about possible GI investigations or reviewing your medications again.

Good luck.

Thank you so much after seeing your post. I bought some today after a chat with DR said it was ok to take with the meds. Took a glug in supermarket. Worked a treat thanks again xx

Hi, lansoprazole gave me terrible problems. I was spending way to much time "in contemplation" in the smallest room. Hd a chat with practice pharmacist and was swapped to famotidine which I take at night and, thankfully, tummy much better. Due to end Dual AntiPlatelet treatment in July when, hopefully, the Clopidogrel should stop. It take a while to get meds balance right. Mine have been tweaked several times.

The best time to take a PPI is first thing in the morning then wait for up to 30 minutes before you eat or take any other medication. That's what I do (I take a PPI for reflux disease). If your symptoms persist go talk to your GP as you may need to adjust your medication including, perhaps, splitting the PPI dose to one in the morning and one at night, or it is possible you might have started with gastric as well as your cardio issues. Edit.....And in my view regular use of Gaviscon or similar products is not advisable since it is loaded with sodium, fine on a temporary basis but not long-term.

Thanks I have hashimotos thyroiditis too so I have to take my thyroid meds first thing and wait an hour before food or drinks. So will try that too. Much appreciated. X

You should be prescribed a tablet to protect your stomach like omeprazole or famotidine. Speak to your GP.

I have Lansoprozole for stomach since the start. My consultant said cant take omeprazole with clopidogrel has to be Lansoprozole 😩 feeling fine today though. 🥰

Maybe it's not quite strong enough. I take famotidine and every 6 months or so I have to double the dose for a short while.

How come you have not been prescribed Omezaparole?

I have Lansoprozole similar drug. Consultant said that works faster and it is more effective. Apparently. Seems to have settled down now no burning today 😍

There is an interaction between clopidogrel and omeprazole and also esomeprazole. That is the reason you have been prescribed lansoprazole. Prior to my NSTEMI I was taking esomeprazole for reflux disease and this was changed to lansoprazole afterwards , because like you and many others, I was also prescribed clopidogrel for a year, and I have never been changed back to esomeprazole nor needed to .

hi I am on a similar path to yourself, don't know if you have been told before but lansoprozle should be taken 1st thing in the morning on an empty stomach and don't eat or drink for at least half an hour ,I am sure that does help, good luck to you.

Oh no thanks . No-one told me to take like that. That could explain the burning i was having. I am also on levothyroxine too saw your reply and thought I would check that too. I found out that Lansoprozole should be taken 4 hours after thyroid meds. Which is impossible as I take those at 6.30 am wait an hour after them to take meds as I start work at 8 am. Dilemma now !! Set alarm Wake up middle of the night take thyroid up normal time take Lansoprozole then wait. More problems struggle already with insomnia due to thyroid 🙈🙈🙈🙈 that explains why my last TSH was elevated oh dear. Back to the drawing board 😭😭😭

You really need to talk to your GP or a pharmacist to find the optimum timing for taking your different types of medication , so that you have minimal side effects. Medication is here to help us not make our lives a misery

I'm in levothyroxin and lanzoprazole I take my lanzoprazole at night, that's what the hospital wrote on my prescription.

lansoprozle works by coating your stomach with a protective layer, to protect it from some of the drugs we are taking, but as everyone is different it is a bit of a lottery .I really do think you can help yourself by looking very closely at your diet, I have been on this path for around 3 years now and at the moment feel like I am making progress with my best types of food to eat, happy to go into more detail if needed ,but as said everyone is different 👍

Thanks you for you kindest offer. I pretty much eat the right kind of foods due to intolerance with thyroid anyway my cholesterol was high as its characteristic with hashimotos and underactive thyroid rather than diet related but have always watched what I eat due to reactions. I cannot follow the full med diet as nightshade foods and legumes interact with my thyroid so I tend to eat lots of fruit and veg and mainly chicken breasts, salmon both smoked and cooked white fish tuna etc. I don't eat red meat or processed meat at all now and I have to avoid butter, sugars, full fat food. Etc. The only trouble I do have now is no salt. Using a few more spices etc but do struggle currently without salt on some foods, but any further advice would be most welcome. Most of my cooking is now in an airfryer for the healthiest option. Thank you xx
