To all of you who responded this morning about my abnormal liver function blood test results..
My Cardiac Rehab nurse checked my blood test results this morning (they have full access) and she said my cholesterol is perfect (1.9) and the liver one is slightly elevated but nothing to worry about. GP might want to discuss meds or do another test. Nothing to concern myself about apparently. Possibly Atoravastatin.
Thank you for your support earlier.

Well this should have made you feel better and that is a good cholesterol reading
Sometimes my blood tests come back not perfect and that is mostly why they take them but they take them because the tablets we take can sometimes affect other things but if they are just a bit out they just tend to keep an eye on them as often it does not change
While ever my Doctor says she is not worried as she is the Doctor then I try not to x
The nurse says they may change my dosage as its been three months and a review at this stage is normal. It's the tummy upset that is affecting me the most. Thanks for your reassurance x
Dr initially suggested I stop my statin for two weeks (apparently any affects wouldn't be felt for 5 years) but I said I was reluctant so she's dropping the dose to 40mg. She was lovely and says my cholestral is so low now it doesn't need 80mg dose. I will have another blood test in three months to check that the cholestral hasn't gone over the threshold of 2.5. Mine is 1.1.
She's also testing my bowel movement to check the diahorria isn't due to anything else. I'm to see her again for results and/or if the tummy trouble doesn't improve when on 40mg statin.
Well that is good news and hopefully dropping the dose will clear up any stomach issues
Do you also take a PPI as they can cause upset stomachs I am suffering now and often do and I am sure it is the PPI if you do take one that is something else to consider
Does changing my dosage potentially affect my cholesterol though ( could it go up again?) Or are you only required to be on the 80mg for a short while? I'm just concerned that cholesterol will start to build up again? It's like choosing between my liver/stomach and my heart. X
I was put onto Atorvastin when was in AF, but at 1st blood check my liver levels were high, they wanted me to carry on but decided to stop them, due blood test April, hoping liver has recovered
It's entirely your decision but personally I would refuse statins as your readings are low. You really have no need for them and the possible (contentious) side effects! If you're not happy with that just take 20mg per day. The medical fraternity is statin crazy but the absolute risk benefit of taking statins is tiny opposed to the relative risk in most patients. It's not the wonder drug it was championed to be. Having said that, I appease my cardiologist with a dose of 20mg per day. Your choice really.
I was also put on the usual 80 mg of statins post STEMI and cardiac arrest back in 2015. They played havoc with my digestion! So I read the research on the subject (in the peer reviewed literature not on Google!) and found that the increased relative risk from reducing the dose to just 10 mg is very, very small. Armed with these facts I discussed with my GP and he was happy to agree with my decision to reduce the dose. On a few occasions in the past ten years if my cholesterol levels are up a bit, I take 20 mg for a while until they drop. Now I am in my mid 70s and feeling fine with no further problems.
I agree. The benefits are minimal unless you are at a much greater risk than normal. This story is true. The mother of a friend of mine who was in a nursing home loved whiskey and chocolate and because her cholesterol was high they called my friend in and told her not to bring her these items. She was 92 years old! Lunacy!
