amlodipine side effects
I’ve been prescribed Amlodipine in the past and cannot tolerate it. Admittedly it’s an excellent anti hypertensive medicine but the ankle swelling for me was awful.
I was prescribed Amlodipine a year ago and for months I was “ spaced out” swollen ankles and a rash.
My blood pressure stabilised in no time and because of other issues I didn’t put this down to my recent prescription of amlodipine.
I have settled down and feel ok but if any of the symptoms reoccurred I would certainly ask for an alternative.
Amlodipine gave me both swollen ankles and brain fog. While I was on it I sort of bumbled through... couldn't put two thoughts together. Not good as I was self-employed! Thankfully I got changed my medication changed to Losartan which has been excellent.
I was on Amlodipine for few years . But when I was referred to AF clinic first thing the nurse did was take me off them as my lower legs and ankles where very swollen. She said I wish GPs wouldn't prescribe them as they always take AF patients off it . My legs and ankles went down so much I could wear ankle boots. I have been on Ramipril for years with no side effects. I have PAF and a small hole in side of my heart between my heart and lungs. Take Flecainide and Apixaban for my heart.
Amlodipine gave me lower leg ulcers within 3 days of starting it. Still got the scars and delicate skin now. There are plenty of alternative drugs they can give you. Brian
Hi Simba. I was on Amlodipine up until I had a stroke and pacemaker fitted. I came off them when I read on the NHS website they should not be taken alongside other heart meds. The only side effect I had from them was ED. obviously only a mans problem. Good luck.
Breathlessness and fluid retention
Hi, I've been taking 5mg Amilodipine daily for about 2 years now, along with a bunch of other heart and blood pressure meds. I recall that I felt a bit strange at first, but now Im fine and it helps to control my blood pressure effectively . I do have slightly swollen ankles, but that could be due to a lot of my meds and other medical problems. I can't say that the Amilodipine is the cause.
