Hello I started taking Amlodipine on 10/19/2024 and about two days ago I started having really bad trouble sleeping. It’s to the point where I’ve barely even slept at all. As of right now I also have a viral ear infection so it’s making my ears and my head hurt but I also think it’s due to the Amlodipine as well. I’m just trying to get rest but every time I google something it says not to take it. Just trying to get advice. I’ll be heading to the ER to see what they say. Any advice is appreciated.

Amlodipine Side Effects
hi I take amlodipine but I’ve had sleep issues way before and continued since started taking. Insomnia is stated as uncommon side affect but thats British advise.

Google is great if the source of information is bona fide / reliable / reputable source. However, decisions about taking meds is always best done in consultation with a doctor,
As you have a ear infection at present and only taken amlodipine for two days it may be difficult to determine which is causing it. Also it can take at least a couple / few weeks to get used to a new medication.
Seeing / consulting a doctor or pharmacist is best.
Good luck.
Thank you! I’ve been taking it for almost two weeks but I’ve just started having the sleep issues. I’m used to being up sometimes as well but I would manage to get some kind of sleep but I haven’t really had any. I know I saw that insomnia was rare to have while taking Amlodipine but that’s the only thing I could think of that was causing it. I know I’ve been having dizziness for about a month due to the ear infection but I know some of it has been coming from the new meds I’ve been taking. Hopefully when I get to the ER they can help me out a little bit. I’ve also been having a little chest pain and when I would attempt to go to sleep my chest just felt so heavy. But thank you I hope they have an answer!
Hello I am sorry to hear that you are suffering in this way.
I have been on amlodopine for a few years now and been ok.
Bisoprolol is a medication that gave me sleep terrors. I no longer take it.
I have recently been diagnosed with A/fib.
My medications have been changed.
I have multiple medical issues.
I am now navigating a new world.
Yes ER is a good way forward.
Sorry l couldn't help more.
Good luck
There are other calcium channel blockers you could ask your doctor to try, but if it were me I'd try to reduce the number of variables in play first (ie: wait for the ear infection to clear before doing anything).
In the meantime you could ask your doctor for something to help you sleep. I'm on zolpidem because one of my antidepressants gives me insomnia.
Yeah I’m waiting for it to clear up, it could be because of two teeth that are infected so I’m taking something for that and hopefully the ear infection clears itself up. I ended up getting some NyQuil for high blood pressure which the doctor at the ER recommended to help me with my fever and headache, I finally had gotten to sleep a little bit.
