Statin - Side Effects

Actually I am happy to say I do not have any so you might wonder why I am posting?

I only check in here every few days as it is all very repetitive particularly on statins. Yes a minute percentage get side effects yet despite numerous posts on the subject often replied to by stalwarts of the forum people do not seem to get that there are endless combinations of statin and dose. It seems to be the same with other drugs like ace inhibitors, beta blockers, etc. And why the endless questions about insurance? Having a heart or other health issue will impact on insurance. Insurance is about chance and statistics, and unfortunately those with health issues are more likely to claim. It is what it is so just get on with it.

One final thought. Why aren't pinned posts on these subjects or FAQs put at the top automatically after log in. Healthunlocked.com really need to revamp their package!

Rant over! I am off for a walk as it looks like a beautiful day.

I can understand the frustration, me too at times, but a lot of the people asking questions are new members, newly diagnosed, new drugs, bewildered and don't know how the forum works perhaps. So I can also understand why they don't search through the previous posts.

I can remember how I felt when I was newly diagnosed when I thought I was a fit and healthy 40 something.

Dear Heythrop51

Hope you enjoyed that walk and no I don’t think that you are ranting as I can see the logic behind your questions.

The problem is the logic part and as I know from experience that flys out of the window whenever you are diagnosed with anything to do with the heart.

I have asked some of the most basic of questions on here at the start of my journey and have been a little embarrassed that the answers were there in plain sight.

But that was not what I wanted, I can look up any information about anything I want an answer on, I needed {and still do} the acknowledgment of a fellow human being that had gone through something that I had, and have no doubt repeated the same answers to many others.

I cannot tell you how great full I am to those people, for they have been a massive part of my understanding this bloody awful illness.

Take care

In some ways I agree with you especially when I saw three similar insurance questions on the same page! However, as Griff-64 says, there are always new members that are worried and nervous, and sometimes panicking.

I think part of the problem is the structure of the forum which is more like a FaceAche page with a long list of posts. Before the pandemic struck I was hoping to meet with the BHF to discuss the forum. I believe it more of a tree structure with sections like Atrial Fibrillation, Heart Failure, Stents and Bypass, Microvascular, Drugs, Tests, etc.. Some sections would also have subsections like Drugs could have Statins, Beta Blockers, etc... Each section would start with some pinned posts that would probably answer 50% of queries. There are a number of other ideas I have. These might need more support initially but once established would reduce. I suspect this could mean leaving the HealthUnlocked family which is starting to IMHO look tired. But other organisations struggle as well, e.g. EON's looks like it was done by primary school children. Maybe I will knock up a prototype as I have supported one website for a charity and implemented an order and inventory system.

For that kind of functionality they’d have to leave HU as you say, Michael. Unless, of course, HU decided to implement that site wide 🤷‍♂️ We have the same issues on other groups I belong to (BLF, NRAS, to name two of several), but my understanding is that some charities ultimately migrated their existing forums here because it’s cheaper and less hassle for them. HU manage all the technical side on the charities’ behalf, for starters.

I also think a big part of the problem is that many new members don’t know you can search. But even when you do search, the results aren’t always that helpful. Pinned posts can be helpful, but again, you’re relying on new members being aware of them and understanding their purpose. Not everyone is that savvy.

I have to agree with you, it's looking a little tired and rather unloved. It would definately benefit from a few changes.

Personally, I've received some good, solid advice from very knowledgeable people and appreciated all replies to a problem I may have posted about, even those just giving reassurance have made a difference.

When I was pre-diabetic I accessed the Diabetes UK which resembled what you describe but imagine as a Type 1 you have seen it.

If you don't like what you see then move on.

If I can help someone I will I post where I have some knowledge.

If a new person read your post it is enough to put them off posting.

I would rather the same subject be posted 10 times than someone be afraid to ask a question in case they are judged.

I really wonder what some people are doing on here if all they want to do is complain about the 'repetition'!!

I won't say my rant is over I am pretty disgusted!!

"If you don't like what you see then move on."

That's not very friendly but that's the problem with wokes and vegans they act nice and friendly but are super aggressive to those with different views!

Will you and Heather1957 please stop as both your comments are unacceptable. I have asked the moderators to lock this and the weight thread as both are going well off topic.

You think it is acceptable to be rude but unacceptable to point this out - that is a bit mad isn't it?

I was not rude so cannot imagine who was. And it is a bit rude to call people mad. You need to - best not say!

Well I don't think MichaelJH was being rude either as he just suggested we cool it.

We are all entitled to an opinion, all of us!

Yet you will not acknowledge that others may have a different viewpoint to yourself as you believe yourself superior and always right!

Heather1957 profile image
Heather1957 in reply to Heythrop51

I believe I did just that, have you read my response? Look it is is obvious you want to cause conflict so maybe better if you continue talking to yourself. I won't be drawn into your petty conflicts when there are more important posts from people that I can (in some small way) help and support.

'Super aggressive', if you think asking someone to move on THAT is super aggressive I am not sure who has a problem here!!

I totally agree with you Heather. People who come to this forum are often distressed and anxious and appreciate a kindly supportive response. All good wishes.

They are probably puzzled as to why you are sniping at an old post! :(

I put the weight episode on meaning it to be taken far more lightly than it was. It was curiosity on my part because I was so self righteous about being the correct size until I saw a lot of obese people well in their seventies living it up and very much alive. However it was not meant to be personal to anyone on this site and I would never advocate being overweight .
