Im 31 years old and 36 weeks pregnant. I was discharged from hospital yesterday following a few days in amd a diagnosis of Ventricular tachycardia. Ibe been prescribed Bisoprolol 2.5mg once a day. Im just wondering has anyone else experienced this and is it safe to breastfeed while taking bisoprolol?? Ive asked pharmacists and doctors in the hospital and also asked my midwife/obstetrician but no one seems to know..

Hi DanniC88
The Breast Feeding Network has a fantastic helpline and FB group about drugs and breastfeeding.

Beta blockers are prescribed for women with high blood pressure too.
I wish you a well for the birth of your baby.

Hello and welcome to the forum! The NHS recommend not to take Bisoprolol during pregnancy or beast feeding - see Section 7:
I am slightly amazed no one was aware of this! ☹️
I'm a 68 year old man so can't really help re your pregnancy but I will say I was taken off bisoporal as I was completely fatigued. As soon as I came of them my demeanor improved considerably so I think you're right to be concerned. Speak to your local cardiac rehabilitation clinic. Hope all goes well.
Is that not covered in the patient information leaflet with the tablets ?

No they just cover themselves by saying no breastfeeding when it is okay.
That's why the Breastfeeding Network is such a useful source of information they run a drugs helpline for women and healthcare professionals.
