What you have experienced is listed as an extremely rare side effect from Bisoprolol. However I would NEVER, given my experiences, now stop taking any medicine without consulting my doctor.

You MUST pester your doctor until they listen to you, if you don't it could have very serious consequences.

Thanks for your reply my condition was inherited I had years being tired and ran down and sleep didn't charge my batterys it took a hart attack to get them take note there was some thing wrong it was the vain on front hart that supply hart mussel that was narrow that needed the stent and what I been through with tablets I wouldn't be interested in taking any more I was on 2,5 mg

Hello :-)

I have to agree with Survivor1952 even though a rare side effect it could be that it is the cause but not to stop them without been prescribed something else from your Doctor I think that would be dangerous so keep getting onto your Doctors and get an alternative

Hope you get it sorted safely and everything works out :-) x

Thanks for you reply I was on 2.5 mg what I went through I defiantly don't want take them looking a more natural product

Hello :-)

To stop this tablet suddenly after the length of time you have been on them could have serious repercussions regarding your health and I can only urge you to talk with your Doctor again but of course the choice is yours if you want to take the risk of doing it your way even though it is not advisable

I hope everything works out ok for you :-) x

Completely understand why you don't want to go back on bisoprolol, but would definitely go back to your doctor- other beta blockers are available, but there are no natural alternatives that will do the same job. If there was, we'd all be on them.

in reply to Captain_Birdseye

Completely understand where you all coming from but after they don't take you seriously after several visits . several on here given it up but no one has said what the draw backs are coming off them even doctors wont tell me its all ifs buts all I know is I am better off them its been two weeks now and still in recovery but Thanks for replies

I'm sorry to have to put it this way but you are being very foolish if not stupid and it could cost you your life.

I know exactly where you are coming from, because I couldn't get my doctor to listen to me or make an appointment to see him I've ended up with heart failure and a heart attack. I've now got a replacement heart valve, a bypass and two stents.

Coming off bisoprolol exposes you to the possibility of heart failure, that WILL lead to breathlessness, severe chest pains and the inability to do anything that involves any exertion whatsoever (even climbing the stairs to go to bed will exhaust you, I used to have to sit down for 10 minutes at the top of the stairs before I could walk to the bedroom). Stopping suddenly will make your underlying condition worse even if you initially feel better.

TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR ...

Yes I have lost my hearing started bisoprol 2013 AFTER BYPASS no tinnitus but unpleasant head feelings balance wise, but I suffer AF and wouldn’t stop taking them without drs say so in fact AEtold me to up the dose after my last visit and said they would write to my doctor but I’ve heard nothing that was a few weeks ago but I’m scared about changing to another as you never know what side effects they might have and it may be worse, I do have another friend that lost their hearing after a short while so stopped them and it improved but haven’t seen them for a long while so don’t know their outcome !!!!

An alternative to Bisoprolol is Nebivolol. It is a more modern BB and is more selective in terms of its' effect on the heart. My cardiologist has recently put me on it in the hopes that it mitigates the side effects of Bisoprolol. Too early to say if it makes a difference.

in reply to richard_jw

Thanks for your input I have put in writing to doctor to come off Bisoprolol and all side effects I have had will see what he says if he replies hope the Nebivolol works for you lot people said stay on Bisoprolol but I wouldn't be mooning about it if I was well on it

Do you know why you are still taking Bisoprolol eight years after your heart attack? It is prescribed at the time of an attack to help the heart recover by reducing blood pressure and limiting heart rate, but after a year or so your medication should have been reviewed and usually you would only need to continue with a beta blocker if, for example, you had high blood pressure or a fast heart rate or there were other reasons in your case.

If you have been prescribed Bisoprolol because of a condition other than the heart attack, there are several alternatives that you could discuss with your GP.

While some of your symptoms are reported to be rare side effects of Bisoprolol, they are also rare side effects of Atorvastatin and even aspirin can cause hearing loss and tinitus, so by stopping all three at once you haven't necessarily identified the source of your problems.

I hope that you get some answers soon!

Best wishes,

Paul

Hi Paul yes you are correct I have kept taking Aspirin and Atorvastatin after I tried these first at a week at a time and Bisoprolol was only one that was causing ill effects have put in writing to GP today my hart condition was inherited it was just the vain on front hart that supply blood to hart muscle a stent was fitted the arteries were ok at time in 2014

You clearly know exactly what to do to identify which drug is giving you a problem! It would be good if GPs took the same approach.

As for the danger of stopping Bisoprolol, it depends upon why you have been taking it. For example, if it was for high blood pressure then you would monitor your blood pressure after reducing or stopping the drug. If your BP became too high then you could ask your GP for an alternative drug. On the other hand, if your BP remained at an acceptable level, you could tell your GP that you don't think that you need to take the drug any longer.

With the help of a supportive GP, you should be able to discuss the benefits and the adverse effects of any drug prescribed for you.

Best wishes,

Paul

I'm having a real battle with a friend who has stopped all her tablets like you just because bisopralol was making her tired. The most dangerous thing anyone could do. There are plenty of alternatives you co uld be given that don't have those side effects. Bisopralol made me feel like a zombie so my doctor changed it. PLEASE get to your doctor right away , tell them what you've done and make them listen and give you different tablets.

I had a one-off session of tachycardia 220-BPM, despite having compete heart block and a pacemaker.

The A&E treatment was 2.5-mg Bisoprolol.

Since then, the cardiologists have hiked it up to 10-mg daily, but no-one, including a cardiology friend and my GP can understand why.

It flies in the face of common sense. Why treat already slow heart rate (the CHB) with betablockers?

I can relate to the issue of the stopping Bisoprolol. I have been taking Bisoprolol for 2.5 years - lowest dose 1.25 mg/day. My main issue was the reduced heart rate resulting in feeling cold for a longer portion of the year (UK). I dread winter. I’m too old to emigrate. I go to Spain as often as possible - it’s blissful. More or less after stepping off the plane, heart rate is up, blood pressure down. On my recent annual meds review with the practice pharmacist, I asked about stopping/reducing Bisoprolol. The pharma set up a F2F with the GP two weeks ago. I went with sheet of notes to present my case. The GP just said, stop taking them. I asked about tapering off. She said no need you’re on the lowest dose. I asked if I should start taking them if I hit any trouble and was told, yes, but you need to tell us.

So I stopped. Appreciate not a medical grade device, however my Apple Watch showed an immediate increase in HR from lower 50’s to late 50’s/lower 60’s. Backed up by my Kardia showing NSR every day except one since stopping. I can’t really evaluate the coldness until later in the year. Having taken these for over two years I’m not surprised to have spells of mild dizziness. Hopefully these will go away. Overall if all goes well I’ve done with Bisoprolol - I absolutely loathe having to take medications. I will always continue with Apixaban. I think my main point is that by going via the GP route to change things, the door is not closed in the event of trouble.

I had the same problem as you but only took mine for a month and also had awful diarrhea and stomach cramps as well, I actually stopped it myself as no one would listen and had to Email my GP, So I was asked to go to the surgery and was put on Atenolol which suits me better, but doctors at the hospital say it's and old drug and prefer the newer ones.

But for the last year every time I attend the hospital the cardio nurses there they keep giving me all sorts of pills that don't agree with me and I spend my days filling awful.

2 months ago I was given Dapagliflozin which is a diabetic drug and the cardio nurses says it's good for the heart as well, Well I have spend a whole month now since I stop taking it with stomach cramps, vomiting, diarrhea , awful dry mouth at night to the point that my mouth is stuck together and get ulcers inside my mouth. So I am going to refuse on taking anything else as I'm sure the medication is doing me more harm than good.

Ps I had a pacemaker fitted on first lock down of the C 19 virus and was fine before I started taking medication.

Good luck with yours.
