Good morning everyone.Cannot believe the difference in the way I feel. Sure, the last few weeks have been a bit rough, tough and emotional hut setting the usual recovery issues aside, ive now started to realise priblems I was having pre op have gone 😊 The biggest difference im feeling is the lightness in my legs. Before surgery my legs felt constantly heavy, like I had walked 20 miles the day before but now theu feel like they did when I was in my twenties 😊. No more head rushes when I stand either and not one palpitation have I felt. Sure theres been a few issues but the scales are very much leaning towards the massive benefits that this surgery brings. If anyone is facing this surgery or recently had it done, there is light at the end of the tunnel that creeps up on you without you really noticing it. I know now what people meant who said 'you will realise how lousy you actually felt after youve had the surgery' this is so right. Friends and family remind me that I have a long way to go in my recovery but at 5 weeks I feel better than I have in years. No hitting the weights just yet but I know when I do, ill have the support of a very healthy heart and a mindset that I thought I was too old for. So my fellow hearties, thank you for helping me with my journey, god bless you all xx
5 weeks post CABG x 3 : Good morning... - British Heart Fou...
5 weeks post CABG x 3
Ok, my grammar may have been slightly affected 🤣🤣
Nice one Stevie onwards and upwards
That's good to hear .I'm waiting for a triple cabg and hope that i sound as positive as you after just 5 weeks
Glad to hear it..... I'm still patiently waiting in the queue
Fantastic to hear, a lot of health problems gradually, inch by inch take their toll, it's only when you get fixed do you realise how bad things were prior.
Keep positive and have a great recovery
Good to see how well you are recovering and things have improved for you. All the best moving forward now
Hello
So pleased to read such a positive post and how well you are doing
Don't worry about your grammar mine is not so good either thank goodness this is not a English test
Have a lovely day and I hope your recovery keeps going well x
So pleased you have noticed the differences for the better since your operation and hopefully this will continue for you. Sometimes I think we can expect too much too soon after we have had corrective operations but when they are on the scale of open heart surgery, recovery can be such a different process for many. Its not always text book and some take so much longer to feel differences. Good to hear how positive you sound and I'm sure your post will be a great read for anyone due for the same op. All the best x
So my most recent cath says i have duffuse micro tiny blockages leading up into my heart and he discussed this with a cohort of his and the cohort says that he didnt thinkni woukd benefit from a bypass at this time due to my comorbidities?? Im thinking everyone who gets bypasses etc are not co morbiditie free and just the picture of health i do have diabetes type two alc is 7.8.....i do have an amputation due to staph myrsa that was not handled correctky and it led me to get osteo mylitis in my foot heel bones so then no dr wanted to deal with that
Thank you, doing as I was told has probably been the best course of action for me. I was determined to 'get back to normal' as quick as possible, Was really tempted to do some gardening a week after coming home but reluctantly listened to my wife 😅 and advice from multiple sources. The improvements just seem to creep up on you, the lack of pain when coughing, the improvement in lung function etc. For me its been realising that my legs no longer feel heavy and tired all the time, they were like that for a good year at least prior to surgery. I just woke up a few weeks ago and noticed the difference 😊 I still wake up aware that ive had the surgery with slight chest discomfort but that passes and is hardly noticeable now.
Even further down the line you might get odd days when you don't feel the ticket and you get aches abd pains but still have days when an improvement makes you feel on top of the world. Just carry on doing what's best for you each day....there's no need for you to be overdoing anything but your wife sounds as though she's keeping her beady eye on you!! And remember......just stay as positive as you already are x
A lesser known side effect of any medical intervention, surgery or medication, is the grammar wham! We’ve all been there but just choose to not admit it. Well done you for putting me at ease! And others, I’m sure.
That's a great post! So glad you're feeling the benefits of the op. 🙂
Great to hear Stevie, you just keep doing what your doing , incrementally increase activity . I found I could walk 5k in no time by adding on 3-5 mins every week. Have you got rehab class organised? I did the level 3 , found it way too easy. I got a the help an online cardiac rehab coach , got me back on weights and running. I then found that I needed more mobility and body strength stuff and went back to my yoga classes , jeez it’s really challenging 🥵 I come knowing I’ve worked 💪🏻. Also achieved 5& 10k running goals in under 7 months . Not all plain sailing , hit a wall at 4 months , a blanket of muscle/tendon/joint pain and cognitive impairment, fatigue plus other symptoms. I stopped training fir about a month , except walking and working round my farm. Stopped taking artovastatin under GP guidance for a month. No w been given 40mg Pravastatin, will see how that goes.
Keep up your good work 👍🏻👊🏻👊🏻
No date for Rehab as yet, im just increasing the intensity of my walks every other day. Sadly I was never big on cardio, mainly weights with the usual training split. Since this has all happened and with my gift of a second chance, im totally going to give my CV system the love and attention it needs
That’s the route I’ve gone down Stevie, one muscle to really look after . Still got some muscle but not doing any compound lifting at the moment 👍🏻
Just glad to be alive, at one stage i was up to 17stone (natural) no im around 13. I miss the gym and the muscle etc but really dont think ive got it in me, all the eating, monitoring etc 🤣🤣 people talk about muscle memory, at the moment my muscles remember being an 8 year old 🤣🤣🤣 I think as long as weve got some focus and something to achieve physically that gym rat in us will get his fix 🤞🤞 keep up the good work mate
Yay! Stevie! This is so good to read!! I’m so pleased for you as I know you were really worried about the op. Good for you mate, on wards and upwards! Remember we are still here if you have anything you want to discuss xxx
Thank you, Its odd now reading my previous posts but hopefully someone else can take comfort in seeing the difference and improvement in my journey, perhaps others are facing the same fears I was. I made a few good friends on the cardio ward and keep in touch regularly and its good to have people to talk to who are going through the same stages as yourself.
I've just looked at your previous posts, and yes, the wait is definitly one of the worst parts!! You will still have blue days to come I am sure but you will keep turning corners and you will keep improving until you are back to "normal" whatever that looks like to you! Please keep us up to date xx
Fabulous news. Congratulations.
This is such a positive post. I’m so pleased you are doing well. I am waiting for a bypass can I ask how long you had to wait for your operation.
Thank you for your reply. I’ve been waiting since December. I have been referred to papworth in Cambridge from Norwich so I’m having to chase everything up. Making sure they have my referral and test results. My consultant at Norwich has said I need this done soon but I’m still waiting haven’t even had an initial consultation with papworth yet it’s just so frustrating.
