Pain relief medication

Hi there,

I had a stent fitted in LAD in 2021. Have a mild to moderate aortic leaky valve.

I also have two slipped discs in lower back. For the most part, I have no pain or restricted movement. Every now and again, I’m in excruciating pain with my back for a few days, then all goes back to normal i.e. pain goes away completely.

This only happens around once a year.

My question is - what strong painkiller can heart patients take?

I understand I can’t have Ibuprofen. How about Co-Codamol? Do any of you know?

Huge thanks.

Hello :-)

I think it would be safe to have Co-Codamol I have had 3 heart attacks and a triple Bypass and have pain issues and have been told I can take it but as we are all different and on different medications etc give your pharmacists a ring and ask them they will be able to tell you :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Hello simplysal,

Just the usual advice, I'm afraid-speak to your GP or pharmacist; these are the people best placed to find a painkiller suitable for you, your medication and your health condition. All the best, 🙂

I’m waiting for spinal decompression surgery and I’m on paracetamol, codeine and gabapentin.

I asked my GP this exact question. He said cocodamol would be fine.

I take Dihydrocodeine for painful joints, which is okay with all my heart medication, I call them happy pills because they have the effect of relieving the pain and you feel like you've just had a small alcoholic drink.

It's anti inflammatories you have to avoid. I've been on oxycodone and paracetamol for years. Your GP w ill know what you can safely take.
