I have bouts of pain in left rib cage , centre rib and low down. Almost like a stitch. Comes and goes. Any ideas?

Has anyone mentioned costo chondritis.?

This is inflammation of cartilage joints that attach ribs to sternum. More common in women, more common on left side. Can be stress related.

In adults important to rule out heart issues. Usually settles

Thanks to you and all who replied. I do think stress related (what isn't?) hope it does settle

Hi I have that, I have been told costochondritis. Very difficult to treat. Told to use ibuprofen or naproxen along with paracetamol. Heat or ice packs give a little relief. I cannot exert my upper body at all e.g lifting bags or stretching triggers pain.

Ibuprofen and naproxen are a no-no with some heart meds. So always check with pharmacist or GP!

GP has prescribed both. Doesn’t appear to interact with my medication

I mentioned it as about six weeks ago a GP said "Who prescribed you Naproxen"? *!

This was in relation to Lisinopril where it an reduce its effectiveness and potentially cause kidney damage!

Also non steroidals not recomnended if you have heart arrythmias can make them worse AF in particular

I have been on blood thinner medication ( Warfarin then changed to Pradaxa, then to Xarelto ) non-stop since 2008, I have had 3 DVTs in my life, I have Atrial Fibrillation (paroxysmal) and tachycardia. Once I started blood thinners I had to cease NSAIDS ( non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) which I had used on and off since 1964 for a slipped disc then later for joint and muscular injuries. I have had costochondritis since 1999 and I find that if I am quiet and not trying to do any very active like roping cattle or gardening then it goes away not having lasted very long, although it may recur in short bouts. I liken it to having a bout of cramp and I rarely take medication (then paracetamol) for it however I have found a big ice pack applied to what hurts has benefited enormously.

Hi. I think.were having the same problem. Well I hope that it really is also my case. At this point all I can do is to hope that this pain I feel on my upper left side is nothing serious. I hope we all get well one day.

Hi foxglove, I had a pain in my right side if I bent forward (to put my shoes, socks on etc) it felt like a rib was coming through my stomach, this lasted for about a 90 sec then it would wear off. I had this for about 2 years or more. This March I had my gall bladder removed and I have not experienced it since. Hope you get it sorted soon. Take care.
