Safe pain relief

Good morning all, I was wondering if you could advise on safe pain relief, I have Unstable Angina and have had 2 stents fitted in the past 18 months (3 if you count the collapsed stent that was re stented last September). I am currently suffering with muscle spasms in my back and was told I can no longer take ibuprofen, is paracetamol safe and if it is how much is a safe dose in a day. Thank you in advance for any advice given. Joan

Safest to discuss this with your doctor or pharmacist.

Hi you can take 2 x 500mg four times in 24 hours unless you are on Warfarin.

Have you thought about co-codamol, paracetamol mixed with codeine a little better for pure muscular pain

Thank you Mark, I do need something a bit more than paracetamol, I've just returned from living in Spain and didn't want to bother the Dr we have just signed on with, it's something that happens every now and again, Co codomol sounds as if it will be more effective.

Just thought I'd let you know my husband went to the chemist and asked about the co codomol and he checked and all was ok to take, I must say it has eased the pain already it's good to know there is something that can help. Thank you.

Hi Joan , Dr . Said for me to take paracetamol or co-codamol for my shingles which was sooo painful he said to make sure not to go over the total paracetamol dose for 24 hours. I wrote everything down and ticked off every dose as I took it. Wishing you better soon.

Hi Plum 53, Thank you for your reply. It is a worry when you know it could cause a problem especially when you are on so many other pills, I will take care of the amount I take. My back has eased a bit today so I am hoping I won't have to take any more painkillers after today.

Maybe you are beyond stents and pills? You may want to discuss bypass...

Hi Mr Music, I’m waiting on a cardiologist appointment, I’m sure he/she will know what’s best for me.thanks for your reply.

Hallo, sorry to read about your problems. I too have had unstable angina 6 months ago & was told to take daily soluble aspirin & paracetamol & codeine or co-codamol when I needed painkiller. I was told NOT to take ibuprofen as it affects the medicines I take for the angina. All the best. Clare
