Hi I have angina since last summer, was on amlodipine for high BP previously and cardiologist put me on bisopropol 2.5mg, I have over time had increased squeezing or tightening on left side, new GP increased dose of amlodipine to 10mg daily, this was not good for me, as I had a lot of pain in my right leg which he had warned about so I lowered the dose again and didnt take amilodipine for a few days and interesting the tightening lessened as did the dizziness so Im wondering if i was on too much medication, Im going back to GP soon but wanted to know if anyone else has had this experience with taking bisopropol and amlodipine together, btw, my BP is good 115/66 hrate 60 ish resting it had been lower when resting thats what makes me think I may not need the amlodipine. Ive also managed to lose half a stone and lower my cholesterol with diet change and plant sterols as I dont tolerate statins. would love to hear of your experience with this medication.

I take both with no issues except slightly swollen left leg. I do need it to control my blood pressure though.

My consultants stopped amlodipine when I had my Nstemi heart attack and quadruple bypass in July 2023. I was put on bisoprolol 3.75 mg , this spaced me out for parts of the day and was reduced to 1.25mg and I was also given half a tablet of 1.25mg Rampiril, no problems . As for statins ,I have been on arvovastatin 80mg and believe it may be contributing to me feeling pretty rough . I can tick about 6-8 symptoms of the side effects. GP agrees that I can stop it for a two week trial period and discuss later other statin options if needed.

I would definitely discuss other options with your GP or consultant. My team were not keen on amlodipine and bisoprolol combo. Well done on your lifestyle changes 👍🏻 I’ve done similar along with my mdad da and my overall cholesterol is 2.4 (low but with secondary help from meds ) .

I take both. I take bisoprolol in the morning and the amlodipine in the evening as taking together did not suit me

Thanks for your reply, I tried spacing them out like you but I find that I get drowsy in the morning taking either of them so I take them late afternoon early evening.

Hi Debkowski,

I can't comment on taking the two medications together as I've been prescribed them at different times. However, neither was plain sailing with issues of various kinds from both. I am still on Bisoprolol, but only 1.25mg which is the maximum I can tolerate. My resting pulse rate averages 55.

I wonder why, with the blood pressure and heart rate figures that you quote, your GP felt it necessary to raise the Amlodipine dose. Leave well alone is my thinking. In the past my GP meddled with my medication and every time the result was a worsening of symptoms. Now I am fiercely protective of what I take.

It's good that you are keeping a note of how you are on the medication that is being prescribed. I would encourage everyone to be proactive in respect of their medication and not just accept what the GP prescribes as being the best medication. We know our own bodies better than anyone else.

Well done on controlling you cholesterol with diet.... much better than any chemical formula! 😀

All the best,

Gerald

Hi, I had my Amlodipine doubled to 10mg after a angiogram in December as they said my bp was high in the cath lab. They also doubled my Bisoprolol to 5mg . I had an angina episode on Saturday used my spray… this is the first one I have had since September 2020 , I had just sat down so not doing anything active. I wonder if it’s the higher dose that’s caused it. Have a telephone appointment with cardiologist on the 12th of February so will see what he says. I go on holiday in a week the first one in a year as it took that long to complete all the tests. This has made me a bit apprehensive.

Hi I had a stent in my lad last Jan. I Jane continued to get chest pain on and off. I had to have stress test (ecg whilst cycling on a machine) for 3 days before had to stop taking bisoprolol and actually found there was less pain and chest tightness.

Since I have weaned myself of them completely and do feell better
