Flu and chest infection.

Hello, I had an HA 3 months ago and had 3 stents fitted. About a week ago I started with a bad chest and flu symptoms. I used to be able to start feeling better after 3/4 days when I’ve had it before. With this one I’m not getting better if anything it’s getting worse each day. I’ve had Lemsips but still feel really poorly nearly a week on. Am I relating this to the HA and current medication I’m on in an unnecessary way? I’ve noticed every little thing I’ve felt since my HA I’ve related it back.

I think you should talk to your GP if you feel that rough Nunk 👍I personally don't buy Lemsip, waste of money 👌 Paracetamol is much cheaper and I buy that and vitamin C and Zinc soluble tablets, 20 and dissolve them in a small glass of water!👍 Have you tried half a lemon, juice it, with a teaspoon of honey and hot water ❓Really soothing 👌 Green tea from twinnings is nice with a flat teaspoon of honey! And contains lots of antioxidants...👍😄

Also depending what medication you can make you more tired Nunk!

About your meds best speak to doctor about it! And get your chest checked as well! You don't want a chest infection really now! 🙏

But wrapp yourself warmly, put more layers of clothes on and sip hot drinks!

A thought in case you go outside, scarf around your neck and to cover your mouth as cold air can get warmed by this, hat and gloves and more socks on!

There is a very nasty cold and cough going about this year and even people that are fit and not had heart attacks it is taking its toll on them when they catch it

You also are getting over your heart attack as well as having your stents which is possibly the reason why you are not bouncing back like you did in the past but again I know people that have had this cold and cough 2 weeks or more

However I would still get checked out by your Doctor at least they can make sure you do not have an infection and everything is ok so try and get an appointment if you can and let us know how you get on x

My considerable experience of virus infections over the years is that some can be over in two or three days and others take two or three weeks, and even then I might not feel 100%. So it depends on the virus itself and there is no way of predicting that. All that said it is likely that your body is still settling down after your stents were fitted so that may be responsible in part for your slow recovery. So just get plenty of rest, keep hydrated, eat to keep your energy levels up, and tough it out. And if you go to work stay at home to give yourself a better chance of recovery, let alone avoiding passing it on to your work colleagues.

I was specifically told by the pharmacist that lemsips-and many other proprietary brands-should not be taken by HA patients. Paracetamol, honey and time usually does the trick but if it gets noticeably worse a chat with your pharmacist might help.

If it's getting worse you should contact your GP. Just yesterday I had to force a friend to the doctor as she could hardly breathe well enough to speak. She didn't phone, she went in person and was seen instantly and went home with a bagful of meds. It's tempting to relate everything to heart when it isn't. She'd been afraid of being sent to A&E where there's presently a 47 hour wait and staffed by the army.

Sorry to hear you are feeling so unwell, Nunk.

It sounds as if you have got the same bug that is affecting my household. I have been ill since last Sunday and it is honestly the worst thing I have had for ages and ages. I am still feeling really bad. The coughing is horrendous and I can't sleep at night because of it.

Have you had a fever at all? My temperature has been normal throughout and I find that odd. Usually if a virus (or whatever it is!) makes you feel this bad, it is accompanied by a high temperature.

All sounds very much like my symptoms Channeal, I’ve not had anything like this since I first got covid.
