Has anyone experienced feelings of anxiety whilst taking Bisoprolol? These churning feelings come on about 1 hour after taking it and lasts most of the day. They have gone by the evening but it wears me out. It is anxious feelings without anxious thoughts. I had an aortic valve replacement 9 weeks ago and recovering well and I have been on bisoprolol since then. Anxious feelings started approximately 3 weeks ago and just wondered if anyone else has had these experiences.

For me to reply is difficult as I have severe anxiety anyway and since my Bypasses it has got worse however I do take Bisoprolol so you have got me thinking

It is early days though for you so hopefully things will settle down

I take 3.75 mgs of bisoprolol in the morning and within 2 hours I feel tense and anxious and uncomfortable in the chest. On the odd occasion I have resorted to taking 2 mgs of diazepam which stops the feelings. I have 20 diazepam prescribed and the pack lasts about 3 months but I can attest to the relief I get when the severe anxiety and discomfort occur after bisoprolol.

You are so lucky to have a doctor that listens to you, I have severe anxiety and was put on bisoprol after my bypass 2013 it has got worse and each day is a trial to get through, sometimes I’m not thinking about any particular thing health wise but feelings of terror overwhelm me!! I asked my GP FOR DIAZAPAN as my previous one gave me 10 in a box to help me when I was anxious over having MRI. (Clostrophobic )and it helped so much, I kept them as I only took them for the tests, they went out of date!! Now I am experiencing these terrible feelings again, I am taking a higher dose of bisoprol but my doctor is refusing to prescribe me anydiazapan as she says they are addictive and thinks anti depressants are a better option which you’ve got to get into your system for a month before you get any relief then you need to gradually wean yourself off where with one little pill you get immediate relief and I haven’t got a dependant nature as she c an see I haven’t had a repeat prescription for these pills for years, and I think this continual anxiety is doing my heart much more damage and I have to continue with the bisoprol for my AF

Diazepam also helps with sleep..all benzos have risk of addiction...but if used sensibly it helps as rest is important to feeling will or getting better..I suffer from insomnia often..the nisoprolol kerps me awake as well as make me feel unwell for many hours every day..Doctors should assist you when they know you act responsibly with a drug that will help in your well being

At my age it wouldn’t matter if I came dependant as long as I had a better quality of life

Hi. I've had various problems thought to be meds-related, after a big op including a new aortic valve, and bisoprolol. The approach I took with my GP was, can I stop this, at least for a trial period? Stopping beta blocker may elevate your BP, and will probably make your heart beat more strongly (i.e. normally) than on the drug. So if proven to be the problem you may need to go onto something else if your cardiac surgeon thinks you should. There are alternatives such as calcium channel blockers. Good luck

I hadn't put 2 and 2 together at the time to be honest, but I started on Bisoprolol 18 months ago following the implanting of my pacemaker, which was all done in a bit of a rush, following the "all clear" "nothing wrong with your heart" from the cardiologist 🙄The physical anxiety feeling had me turned inside out, it was really debilitating. I was 52.5 at the time. After lots more tests to rule out other ailments my GP finally prescribed me a HRT patch, and I haven't looked back.

I'm aware that I don't know your age, but for me it was a few things happening at once and so it was hard to suss out what was causing what.

Regarding the Bisoprolol I was started on 1 25 following the pacemaker, had breakthrough tachycardia and flutter, so the dose was upped to 2.5 which had me exhausted and a quite "zombied", I work in a supermarket and so need my energy 😂... Anyway, I managed to get them to agree to going back to the 1 25, and other than really really cold hands I'm doing great 😄

I hope that you get to the bottom of what's making you feel this way. Personally I was told that it takes a while to get used to new meds, but being quite an impatient person, who just wanted to get back on with life, I found it difficult to believe, but it seems to have happened for me.

I had anxiety and horrible nightmares to begin with which I was advised is common, but that all went and the extreme fatigue once my body got used to the meds.

For me personally it too about 4 weeks for the lowest dose, but I had to move quite quickly up to the highest dose which took me about 8 weeks. I'm now back from 10mg to 7.5mg as I was really fatigued on it and it started to bring my resting heart rate down to around 47bpm.

That is also a problem I have..it lowers bp too much sometimes..and I just feel lethargic...these drugs take the fun out of us a lot of the time and I just feel like sitting and doing nothing..no energy or motivation..they make me feel depressed...

I know exactly what you mean Elsabounre . I was feeling constantly drained and felt bad that I had no energy to run around with my young daughter. It was really getting me down and had no interest in dokng anything or going anywhere. I do feel so much better my dose has been lowered though. My resting heart rate is now back to the 60's and I have my energy back

Hi.

In a nutshell- yes!

Depending on dosage. I found that when I was on a low dose it was worse. I’m currently on 10mg/day for my arrhythmias and for me the dose is just right.

When your system is used to it, it will get better. Hopefully you won’t be on them ad-infinitum but Bisoprolol are probably the best tolerated of all the beta blockers.

Atenolol gave me worse arrhythmia, propranolol was dreadful, sotalol was life threatening and Bisoprolol is the lesser of all evils. At least for me anyway.

Absolutely...I also take entresto..but bisoprolol is definitely making me feel sick like you for most of the day..as well as anxiety...will ask Cardiologist if there is another that may be better..but he is sure that it is one of the best beta Bl. around..please let us know if you change and how this is going

Hi, I am sorry you are having such feelings. I have been taking Bisoprolol for over a year now, but did not experience this - my problem was severe tiredness, so the consultant halved the dose,. I hope you get sorted our soon.

Yes I do - I call it nausea in the stomach - very unsettling although never been sick) - I have reduced now to 1.25mg
