insurance- experience

I know some of us occasionally ask for assistance on insurance- indeed I did a few months ago.

I opted for Insurance With - based on advice given and cost plus they seemed very down to earth and friendly.

Having just had to make a claim - have had a terrible experience. Refused from the outset by their agent - Collinson as didn’t send them in medical evidence. I know other suppliers write to you for supporting information as appropriate to their need. But they outright dismissed my claim for cancelling a flight I was due to go on today - as hadn’t sought a Drs approval or support; heaven knows how I was going to do that overnight

I put a review on Trustpilot and have appealed as have a further trip planned for September and the point of insurance is to have peace of mind. So - maybe this was an isolated experience

Now to look at an alternative supplier!

Could you ask your doctor to write a letter to support why you had to cancel the flight? This would help your case I would have thought.

All the best.

Hi

I agree - and in fact that’s what most providers do. But not InsuranceWith - they’ve dismissed it.

I really expected they’d ask me this and was ready and waiting for a medical form to take to the GP .

Maybe it’s a blessing as at least am not stranded in Spain needing help.

Hi, Had a similar experience last year, albeit, I had been hospitalised for a couple of weeks beforehand, but, was discharged the day prior to when we were due to fly. A Consultant wrote me a letter confirming I was unfit to fly, so I thought that would be useful in my claim.

I may as well not have bothered with the letter, the Insurance company weren't interested in it, all they wanted was their claim form to be completed by my GP which was duly done and they paid up.

Are they refusing to send you a claim form?

Hi

Yes - as far as Collinson ( the underwriter) are concerned- because I did not go to the GP to get a letter ( difficult at the best of times in the NHS ) even though the flight was the morning after my injury- I didn’t meet the basic criteria point. I m complaining to the Ombudsman.

Hi

Thank you for the information, it is good to know.

Insurance should be there to help you when things go wrong but that does not appear to be the case for the vast majority of them. We now have the situation where they don't trust us and we don't trust them, hardly a healthy relationship.

Indeed. Unfortunately most reviews are written from a perspective of how easy it was to buy the product as opposed to how things are- when things are tricky. So now am looking at a new provider.
