I would definitely like some of your summer sun, as it's winter here in Australia and quite chilly.

What's your idea of quite chilly? One Oz person I spoke to said that once the temperature reached 16 degrees they went indoors and put the heating on. I said that here in UK once the temperature reached 16 degrees we went on the beach!!😊😊

Callie456 profile image
Callie456 in reply to gladliz

Hehehe, yes I'd agree at 16 degrees I'd probably be inside with the heater on! It's been about a max of 18 in the day this week where I am. Still nice if you sit in the sun, but by 3pm it's dropping to 15 or 16, so time to go indoors.

Hi, BeKind28,

I am so sorry to hear of your water infection. That is painful and can make you feel terrible. I hope that the meds help clear it out very soon.

Do you know offhand what your outside temperature is in Fahrenheit degrees? For my hot weather, I keep a secret stash of sugar-free popsicles in my freezer, but I love the sound of the fruity ice cubes.

I hope that you feel better soon!

BeKind28- profile image
BeKind28- in reply to Smitty1956

Hello :-)

The meds are helping but the side effects are dreadful and I have 5 more days to take them so this is not good as it is causing me anxiety

I have a thermometer in the garden how accurate it is I am not to sure but I think it is not far of and it is reading 84 Fahrenheit at the moment

Yes ice pops as we call them are handy to have in and me to the fruit ice cubes sound like a really good idea :-)

Hope you are having a nice day :-) x

Smitty1956 in reply to BeKind28-

Well, I am hoping for the nice day! 🀞 it is only 9:30 am here, so we shall see.

I think that I mentioned before that I lived in Texas for over 10 years. When I first went there, I flew from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Dallas, Texas. This was in August, and the temperature in Pittsburgh was about 86 degrees F and humid. When I got off the plane in Dallas, it was 104 F and dry. I felt like my lungs were being sucked out of my body. Lol πŸ˜‚ It took me a long time to get used to that heat.

I hope that you have a lovely dayβ€”maybe a little cooler.

BeKind28- profile image
BeKind28- in reply to Smitty1956

Hello :-)

Well we are 84F but how you managed the 104F I have no clue and now you say you are used to it :-)

I suppose maybe you do adapt even though I am not doing well with it :-)

So now you start your day and I hope it is a good one :-) x

Smitty1956 in reply to BeKind28-

Lol! Actually, after the 10 years, I moved back to West Virginia. I don’t think that I ever really got used to days being over 100 degrees and hardly ever any rain.

In WV, our normal summer temperature is about 86 F, but we usually have high humidity. Since my HA, I struggle with high temperatures.

I am going back to see a cardiologist at the end of June to try to find out what is causing all of my breathing problems. Almost daily, I struggle (even sitting at rest) to take a breath. Sometimes, it actually feels better after walking or doing some household chore. It has the same feeling as trying to breathe during a panic attack, but I don’t think that I am panicking. Anyway, I hope that we can get it figured out. I had a chest CT scan about a month ago, so maybe the cardiologist can still use that data.

I hope that you feel better today, BeKind28. Try to enjoy your garden if it is not too hot. ❀️

Hello :-)

So you did live in the UK ?

What made you move to America if I have got that right and do you miss the UK if I have

When you said West Virginia made me start singing the song :-)

So your Summers are always like what we now seem to be getting these last 2 years

I am sorry to hear you are struggling with breathing problems glad you have had an xray and hopefully will be able to find out why and hope you tell us how that goes

I am having terrible side effects from these antibiotics I am having to take but thank you for asking :-)

I cannot sit out yet in the garden it is to hot for me I wait till it is cooler :-)

Enjoy your day :-) x

I’m actually American, but an Anglophile. I love British literature, art, architecture, etc. I was an English major in undergraduate college. I had the opportunity to visit the UK in 1976, and I loved it! I lived there from August through December of that year. I traveled all around England and Scotland, but I lived in Oxford.

We also love the John Denver song, β€œCountry Roads.” We sing it at all of the West Virginia University football games when we win. Plus, it is now officially one of our state songs.

Yes, our summers are filled with 80+ degree Fahrenheit days. Plus, we tend to have high humidity, so it can get uncomfortable. This week we have mainly had 70 degree days with low humidityβ€”very nice πŸ‘! I wish that it could stay cooler, but it won’t.

Thank you for the lovely chat today! It cheered me up, and I learned the correct term for ice pops. πŸ˜ƒ

I hope that you have had a good day, and that you feel better.

Hello :-)

I really enjoyed reading your reply and thank you for sharing that with me as well as it is a small world as we say as I am not to far from Oxford I know it well :-)

I thought you called it Soccer games where you are and we say football :-D

We have as our Anthem for the England games "Sweet Caroline " but you might already know that :-)

You certainly do have it hot and I do not like it when it is humid so you do well coping as good as you do

I am getting side effects from the antibiotics but to be expected I always do even though I do not like it but I can tell they are starting to work thank you for asking :-)

I think it can be good to get to know more about people if they are willing to share that is on Communities and this post is great for that opportunity as well as Andys crap jokes :-D

I have enjoyed talking to you and getting to know you a lottle more to :-) x

Lol! I am sorry that I missed the musical reference. Sometimes, I am way too literal.

Well, I didn’t hear it when it actually was made, but my favorite music is usually from the 1940s. I especially enjoy Billie Holliday’s music, Fred Astaire, and others from that time period. I used to stream a lovely station from the UK that played war time music (WWII).

Hello :-)

Awful night last night and same today they have put me on antibiotics but already after taking 2 I know why do not like them they make my breathing worse , headache and you feel tired as well as generally unwell

Not sure how long I have to take them for as Chemist are waiting for the Doctors to get back to them as the prescription said take one twice a day for 7 days yet they only put 6 antibiotics down to be prescribed which makes 3 days

So the chemist has sent 3 days to be going on with till they find out what the Doctors want me to take and if it is 7 days to send another prescription but the side effects I am hoping it might be 3 days rather than 7

How are you ?

I’m not sure if this would work, but I know it works if air conditioning is used. In addition to keeping the curtains drawn, perhaps close the window and the door of your bedroom and just keep the fan on and running in an attempt to keep the cool air in the room. Worth a go maybe?

Thanksnhs profile image

Unfortunately I don't have a fan, we don't usually need them up here but this year it's been exceptionally hot, I am thinking of getting one but no doubt by the time I order it normal weather will have resumed πŸ™„ the window only opens a tiny bit but I have been keeping the door and curtains shut but when I walk in its just a wall of heat, the sun hits the window from lunch time till it sets. Something tells me this weather will not settle any time soon, I expect it will get even hotter and reach anywhere between 40-50 degrees this Summer. It’s one extreme to another. The winter’s are terribly cold now, and the Summer’s awfully hot. I think it’s safe to say climate change has fully kicked in now.

Not t o uching the lawn; there's nothing to cut anyway. He cut it too short last time but it will survive or not. NO great loss and easy to reseed for next year if necessary. Grass is usually tough enough to survive a drought.

This might not be a great idea, but I will say it. If you have a fan, you might try placing a dish of ice cubes in front of it, and let the fan air blow over the ice cubes toward you. It might give a little bit of cooler air.

A portable air conditioner might work too. You could easily set that up and use only as needed.

It is very difficult having heart issues in very hot weather, so I hope that you can get some cooler air soon. 😊

Hi Char,

I heard a good tip on β€œthis morning” a while back. Get tin foil and stick it (with a bit of water wiped or sprayed over the window) to the window, shiny side facing outwards and it will help keep the heat out.

Also, open the window at night once the sun has gone down and put a bowl of ice in front of the window so the warm air will pass over the ice and help to cool the room (only works if there’s a breeze and usually recommended placed in front of a fan but I read that you don’t own one.

Last tip, fill a hot water bottle about a third of the way and pop in the freezer. Place in your bed or on your pillow about an hour before bed to help drift off feeling cool and comfortable.

Hope these help, best wishes

Poor cat just wanted a cuddle & you kept pushing him away Yumz! Have you tried putting a spare pillowcase in the fridge before you go to bed, then if you are too hot during the night you can change your pillowcase for the one that is nice & cool - this might help you drop off / go sleep again - provided it stays cat free of course!

My mum used to leave the heating on overnight in the winter for her budgie I told her it was unnecessary, and a complete waste of money. One morning we came down and it was really hot in the room and the bottom of the cage was full of feathers. Apart from its head the budgie was bald. My mum made me and my stepfather take it to the vets the next day, she was convinced it had mite and made us promise we would not allow it to be put down as she loved it so much. My stepfather told the vet he thought the bird had mite. The vet replied "It MIGHT have". I couldn't stop laughing. The vet gave us some powder to sprinkle on the bird. It eventually worked and the budgie lived another 5 years having grown a few sparse feathers which convinced my mum she was right!

Good morning everyone. How is the weather in your part of the world today? Here in South Devon we have light cloud and sun, feels a bit cooler out, but still hot indoors. I'm hoping to spend the day gardening. How are you going to spend yours?

Jean

BeKind28- profile image
BeKind28- in reply to jeanjeannie50

Hello Jean :-)

It is cooler here thank goodness even though like you say a little hot inside but with the windows open you can feel a breeze we actually have just had a few spots of rain and then it stopped !

I have the trooping of the Order on at the moment while giving orders to my Husband in the garden but have a good excuse these antibiotics I am having to take are giving me the worst side effects but I have to try and take them all but struggling

I hope you get done in the garden what you need to and have a lovely day :-) x

jeanjeannie50 in reply to BeKind28-

Thank you BeKind

I wish I had someone to shout orders to re doing the garden. It needs so much doing and I really don't know where to start! Will try and get a gardener in to cut the hedges, my usual one didn't turn up to cut them last November and I can't bear to see them looking so straggly.

We had a few spots or rain too. I wish it would have a good pour down and give everywhere a good watering.

The antibiotics you're taking aren't Metronidazole are they? I refuse to take those tablets ever again as they made me feel dreadful.

When me and my Husband first met and I could get out a little we had a short break down Devon such a lovely place I did enjoy it :-)

Get yourself a gardener I would send Hubby if we lived closer :-) x

And for the rest of us, just a reminder that Father's Day cpuld also be a good chance :

- to spend a few minutes remembering some nice / special memories of Dad's / Granddad's no longer with us.

Why are we always forgotten about

BigMel profile image
BigMel in reply to Tos92

Nobody had posted on it for 4 days.

Tos92 profile image
Tos92 in reply to BigMel

I wonder why? πŸ€”

BigMel profile image
BigMel

Wit like that will make sure the Social Check-in goes from strength to strength.

1234_6 profile image
1234_6

Maybe it's just been too hot and people aren't feeling up to bothering at the moment.

It's quite difficult to use in this format too with later replys getting embedded into different places in the eariler posts.

However the point is it's here for if and when we want to use it ☺️.

Tos92 profile image
Tos92

Well I assumed, if everyone is trying adhere to the updated rules, the social check-in thread would be renewed as agreed by the moderators and the forum members once a week.

BigMel profile image
BigMel in reply to Tos92

Not everyone is though, Rachmaninov2 for instance posted the other day and had 25 replies before a Moderator closed it.

Not one person suggested that it was the wrong place to post until RITP did.

Perhaps if more members helped Amy-BHF by suggesting a post belongs on the Social Check-in rather than encourage posts on the main forum by replying to them, the forum would be a lot more harmonious, like it has been for a couple of weeks now.

Most people abide by the rules, why can't everyone?

Tos92 profile image
Tos92 in reply to BigMel

The reason for that may be simple. For example, if a post isn’t trending, it is hard to locate on this forum. Furthermore, not everyone is familiar with all the other types of functions such as saving or pinning a post. These things may have contributed to it landing on the main forum.

I don’t think this one post has disrupted the harmony of this forum. I’ve been seeing and responding to heart related posts all week.

On the whole however, this recent change has been adhered to by the majority of members on this forum from what I have observed.

BigMel profile image
BigMel in reply to Tos92

Have you read the post and replies?

Tos92 profile image
Tos92 in reply to BigMel

Yes. I don’t see the relevancy in discussing a post that has been closed to be honest.

BigMel profile image
BigMel in reply to Tos92

OK but it was the relevancy to your post about adhering to the updated rules and renewing the Social Check-in that was the point, not the actual post itself.

Tos92 profile image
Tos92 in reply to BigMel

Yes, and I also said a majority have been adhering to the updated rules. Those who haven’t I’m sure have have their own, perhaps very simple explanations as mentioned earlier.

BigMel profile image
BigMel in reply to Tos92

An easy mistake for some people but why not delete and repost on the social chat when notified.

BTW, Rachmaninov2 has been a member for 3 years and posted over 100 posts and over 5000 replies, I would think they know how to correct a mistake but as you say, perhaps they have their own very simple explanation.

Flimflab profile image
Flimflab in reply to BigMel

Good point, I'll try to remember to redirect posts to the Social Check-in if I think it is a more relevant place. I would be interested in seeing how well the Social Check-in is working for the moderators.

BigMel profile image
BigMel in reply to Flimflab

When the Social Check-in was first set up by Amy-BHF there were around 20 posts in the unanswered section which covers the previous 4 weeks / Calendar Month.

Today there are 3, all posted within the last 24 hours. I think that clearly demonstrates that the chit chat was pushing genuine queries, questions and information off the page leaving worried people without an answer, but at least they could die laughing while waiting for a reply.

BeKind28- profile image
BeKind28- in reply to BigMel

Hello :-)

I am not sure how much truth is in that

I have always gone into the unanswered posts I leave it a few weeks especially if I do not have a answer hoping someone that does will reply

However if after a few weeks no one has replied I just ask the poster how they are doing now this then takes it out the unanswered posts and I have been doing that the last couple of days till everyone was answered so why your theory could be wrong I emptied it the best I could

Why has this debate yet started again I have no clue it gets tiring and the Community was just starting to look like everyone had settled down

I watch the news , people no doubt not alive at the bottom of the sea , the war , people losing people they love to cancer , heart failure and so much more and then I look on here and see the debates over posts and I think what ? really can we just remember at this moment how lucky we are and it makes me feel ashamed we can even be moaning or complaining about this when you listen to what is happening around the world

Now attack me for expressing my opinion no doubt someone will instead of been grateful we even have a site to come on and not at the bottom of the sea or living in fear when will the next bomb drop and lots more

BigMel profile image
BigMel in reply to BeKind28-

No one is attacking anyone, just having a discussion.

So before the Social Check-in, how many times did you go through the Unanswered Section and respond to them because when I looked at the time, nobody was and I was looking everyday and still do. There were a large number of posts which had been there for the maximum period before they were timed out, nobody answered them and this had gone on for months and months.

The debate began again because a few members posted social chat on the main forum perhaps if you saw them you could have suggested to them that they delete it and post it in the Social Check-in. Nobody has got angry about it but I agree it gets tiring when people fail to follow the rules.

As for the rest of the message regarding world events, perhaps post about them on the Social Check-in if it helps with overcoming your concerns about things that are beyond your, my or most other peoples control. After all, isn't that what its there for?

If everyone worried over every World Dictator trying to destroy their enemies or rich adventurer who wishes to travel 3.5 miles below sea level to view a rusting hulk I doubt very much anyone would ever want children again.

The human race would die out through apathy, maybe the Earth would recover and life could begin again without our polluting, war mongering, evil, disagreeable, destructive and greedy society getting in the way. It's just a thought, taking your concerns to the utmost degree.

Perhaps that is the way forward, self annihilation of the Human Race!

On the other hand, if people followed the rules that Amy-BHF worked hard to implement there would be no reason to reopen the debate, no reason worry unnecessarily, no reason to get tired of it all, and no reason to unsettle the community.

Rather than contributing to social chit chat on the main forum by replying and excusing erroneous posts, why don't we all do as Flimflab has written and try to remember to redirect them to the Social Check-in.

Surely that is better than having to endlessly discuss this topic.

No doubt I will now be attacked for expressing my opinion.

Oh dear, you don't understand do you, I knew you wouldn't.

When the Social Check-in was launched I immediately stopped posting social stuff and supported Amy-BHF in her efforts to separate chit chat from the main forum as I could see the damage it was doing to the forum. Rather than encouraging rule breaking perhaps you should endeavour to help Amy by directing erroneous posts to the Social Check-in. Or do you advocate breaking all or any rules to suit your own values.

By the way, I came back onto the forum after having an email conversation with the media guy at BHF. He stated he hoped I would re-join this forum so I did. I have the conversation on record, if you want to speak to him personally I'm sure he will offer you the same courtesy as he did me.
