Thanks for the link, very interesting and using ponies or people sounds feasible. 🎠

What I am wondering is the explorer Peter Munday who logs the number of miles between villages and towns back in 1620 or thereabouts-what was he using to measure every day? I'm sure there weren't milestones at every point? Little facts like that fascinate me! Sorry-small mind!!

wider thinking, detailed thinking are signs of a big mind ❤️
The City of Spires! When I was a college student (American) in 1976, I spent one semester living in a bed and breakfast in Oxford. We would usually spend half a day in classes at the Crowley Community Center, and afterward, we were free to set off on day trips around Oxford and neighboring areas.
Sometimes, we would take off a week from classes and just travel. Some trips, we took as a whole class/group—-Bath, Coventry, Stonehenge, etc. Other times, we were given a whole week to travel off on our own. We had bought British Rail passes while we were still in America so we could travel endlessly by rail.
In 1976, you could still walk right up to the stones at Stonehenge and touch them. I remember just hugging the stones. Lol. I also recall the warnings on trains, buses, and at museums, etc. about unattended packages. That was a new feeling for us—having to worry about possible harm from others. It is a different world here, in America, today.
I can understand why. It is a beautiful city! I learned to do brass rubbings there. Totally unrelated thought. Lol
I seem to recall the name of St. John’s Street (possibly) in relation to the B&B where I lived. Does that sound possible?
My friends and I used to go to a lovely Greek restaurant in the city. Wonderful food and atmosphere. Fun times!
It must have been wonderful for you to go to Oxford University! I used to walk around the different colleges and the Bodleian. I was in awe at the architecture in your city!
Thank you for reminding me of lovely, happy memories!
Have you ever watched inspector Morse, or Lewis then? Wonderful murder mystery programmes which all take place in and around Oxford! About as safe to live as Midsomer Murders!!🤣🤣
Morning to allSo overcome by Exhaustion today but better get my day started. Looks like a nice day here in London despite being a bit cloudy. Time for make a nice cuppa ☕
With AFib I seem to vary from day to day. Yesterday I felt rather weak but went out for a short cycle ride in the late afternoon. I've found that it's best for me to limit activities to 30 minutes then rest. Today I'm a bit breathless so pottered around slowly doing a few odd jobs in the garden. Here in Bohemia bright but a chilly wind. Certainly good to be outside.
Hi All, im glad the sun is shinning again today as I was too stressed out to notice it much yesterday before i finally had my Stress Perfusion MRI after a 7 month wait and 2 cancellations & even after it. Glad it's over. Now waiting for Cardiology. Spooked them with my low heart rate during the proccedure ... they pulled me out to ask / check! So at least feeling i wasn't wasting their time London (by the Thames) today seems back to full tourist levels, but I've found a quiet corner for my lunch break.
Hope you are all having as lovely and pain free a day as possible.
Definitely me. I was meant to go swimming but not sure I can today! Woke up with headache and out of breath quite a bit. Gonna chill and try this afty 👍
If you're referring to me, would you care to point out where I have moved onto another post doing the same thing? Other than what I've just posted here of course!
Bless you. I don't know anymore than that myself ha. To be honest I didn't know what a side bar was, I just assumed it would be in the pinned post so you probably shouldn't take any notice of me. The side bar isn't even at the side is it 🤭
Look to top right of the main page and you will see a notice saying Pinned Pages - it means they are fastened there. This is if you are using a PC, I dont know where they are on other screens.
I remember the time I set out to take the pooch for a walk. I got to the corner of the street and thought:🤔 "I don't know, I'm sure I've forgotten something". I did a quick check: lead, poo bags ... and still couldn't think what I'd left behind. Then it dawned on me; 🤭I was lacking a four-legged companion.
I returned home for her to find her sitting inside the gate with such a forlorn look in her large brown eyes. The trouble was: my wife was witness to the whole charade and has never let me forget it.😏
I used to take my dog most places. I was coming home from an appointment, chatting away to him, (he was a good listener), glanced in the rear view mirror and couldn't see him! After a moment when time stood still I realised as it was a sunny day I'd left him at home. Abd breathe...
I had a friend who had a tandem he rode with his wife sitting behind him. One day riding along she noticed a noise coming from the back wheel. They stopped at some traffic lights and so she got off to see if she could locate the problem. Meanwhile the lights changed and her husband, unaware that she wasn't aboard, set off; and only noticed that his beloved was absent a couple of miles later when he asked why she wasn't contributing to getting the tandem up a hill. He returned to find her back at the traffic lights and I understand that words were exchanged.
Did you hear of the newly qualified taxi driver, who, when tapped on the shoulder by his fare to ask a question, nearly crashed the car! When asked what was the matter he said I used to drive a hearse!
Just had some good news I'd like to share. My son has passed his "maturita" exams here ( roughly ALevel). He's been a bit stressed with them but got very good grades. He's been studying part-time while working.
The sun has gone in here and there's a cold wind but I couldn't care less.
When someone follows you, you get a notification to say so, and vice versa. However, I have not noticed that the follower gets notified everytime the followed has posted something. But, the follower can go into the followed’s main profile and click on “replies” and see who they’ve commented on/responded to that way.
Or absolutely everyone in the group can see the last comment on a thread in the news feed, which is exactly why I've seen this comment & previous comments. Lots of hysteria going on over this when the reality is actually very simple. Sorry. I'm not referring to you just some of the stalking comments 🤣
If it helps I know a 30 year old that went to work, got all the way to work and realised they weren't wearing a skirt or trousers just a long top/Tunic
I’ve managed to go to work in my slippers before (thankfully got away with it because they were Ugg type looking things) but that’s a whole other level 🤣🤣
Good to hear that you’re not in any immediate danger from the placement of it. At least you can give them a ring if you continue to have problems with it which is nice.
Gorgeous boy/girl/they 🤭. Lovely markings yeh 😊
That's good to know. It did look very uncomfortable on that pic you put on!
Does that mean you are a witch? (Weren't they ment to have 3 (man)boobies?) 🥳But on a more serious note, I hope the appointment goes well and they can help.
mine has moved and l can feel the wires under the skin as well as the pacemaker box and when I lift my arm up in the shower I can get my fingers right under it, don’t like it at all !!!
Interesting, my comments were 3 hrs ago to tos92...........I hope you've enjoyed your day, that the sun has shone for you. I'll leave you to enjoy your evening, my spag bol is waiting for me! 👋
I took up fencing in an after-class at school and loved it - mainly because the inserts us females had to wear inside the breast plate protector. It was the first time in my skinny minnie teenage life that I looked as if I had a chest! 😂😆😜
Oh teenagers are a nightmare. Well done you for taking her on.
I went through a rebellion stage with Mum around this time, dyed my hair vivid blue, she went mad.... I went to live with Dad shortly after... I'm not sure if it was linked.
The war was driven by the commercial and imperial rivalry between Britain and France, and by the antagonism between Prussia (allied to Britain) and Austria (allied to France). In Europe, Britain sent troops to help its ally, Prussia, which was surrounded by its enemies.
The war arose out of the attempt of the Austrian Habsburgs to win back the rich province of Silesia, which had been wrested from them by Frederick II of Prussia during the War of the Austrian Succession. But the Seven Years’ War also involved overseas colonial struggles between Great Britain and France, the main points of contention between the two rivals being the struggle for control of North America and India.
Thanks I've enjoyed being teacher again 😁 any more questions?
Quite a complex conflict it seems. A lot to do with clashes over colonies. Here it involved conflict over Silesia. Hope we have learned something, but not so sure we're any wiser today.
Rachmaninov2 you can post your earlier message here that accidentally went onto the main forum. When you click into this thread, if you select “reply” at the top when responding to the HU_Moderator, you can attach your image and message in the same way if you wish to still post it! I always find it difficult! It sort of shows what is connected properly though, and sometimes that connection drops. Then of course you can’t use the old ‘switch it off and on again trick’! Yikes!
15 inches of snow. I bet the state does not grind to hault. Get a couple of inches in the uk and that's it. Planes don't fly. Trains don't run. Went to Chicago once in January. I have never felt the cold., like I felt it when I was there. You could not use de icer on the car you had turn the car on use a scraper and then go in for breakfast to let the car warm up. When it snowed people with pick up trucks had snow ploughs on the front and would drive up and down a section of free way. Happy days.
Lol! No, nothing ground to a halt here. Part of the area has ski resorts so they liked the snow, and the people who live there are used to it too. Many have snow plows or snow mobiles or 4-wheel drive. ☃️☃️
I don’t really like snow myself. I used to live in those mountains so I had enough. We didn’t get snow where I live—just cold.
I lived in Texas for over 8 years and they did stop everything if they got snow.
That was terrible about the car bombing, but the rebuilding effort sounds grand! I think that in 1976, Americans were naive about terrorist activities. It was scary to me to be on a train or bus and hear the warnings about unattended packages and such. Now, in most of America, the terrorists are our neighbors, or coworkers. On the news, we hear about mass shootings almost daily. It is horrible! There does not seem to be so much violence where I live, but I worry that one day it will come.
I would love to see your city since the rebuilding. I’m guessing that things are even better than before! I believe that I have read that you have had a growth in population too.
"I believe that I have read that you have had a growth in population too." That is an understatement!! If tyou ever want to come and visit, you'd be welcome-I run a B&B on the Ridgeway National Trail, and we get lots of Americans coming to 'hike' the trail!! We are about 24 miles from Oxford city centre and have a rail station 1/2 mile away with trains to London in 35-40 minutes.
Little story my brother in laws uncle played for Manchester City. Any way he retired from football and lived in moss side. So he was never on the wages they are on now. So my brother in law and sister went to visit him. My brother in law had an Ford escort turbo. Lovely car. Parked up and his uncle said come in for a coffee before un packing. Went out a bit later to un pack radio gone. Surprised his wheels where still on the car.

Learning something new is good! Just googled it too - the seed head grows in a pattern that follows a Fabonacci number series. Basically it's pretty spirals & i'm not even going to try & understand the 'maths' bit that it resembles.
The Tudors especially Henry VIII because of the way he changed the religion of Britain (and yes I'm a Catholic) it's the way he lived his life. I did a dissertation on the Tudors in university
As I said earlier I love history I have always had a favourite time of the restoration and CHARLES 2 The politics then and the politicians plus Charles's way of keeping his parliament and the people happy while still managing still to enjoy himself Pity his brother James 2 wasn't so astute when he was King history would have been so different I wonder if we would still be here and if so how different would our lives have been
Must have been late 80s it was an xr3 I, turbo the car. So yes late 80 early 90s. His uncle won the fa cup for Manchester City in 1956. He use to run the football shop at Manchester City.
I know very little history, geography, science or general knowledge stuff. O nly had maths, English & Art lessons just 1 hour a day education for my final 3 years at secondary school, but I love learning about medieval times & buildings from reading the Cadfael books.
Can I jump in with a question please Valentina. To what extent did Tsarina Alexandra’s reliance on Rasputin influence the Russian Revolution. I find that period in Russian history fascinating.
I was bored rigid in history lessons at school, V, probably because of the teachers we had - but as I've aged it's becoming more and more interesting and I'm now fascinated by it all aspects of our past. I'm really glad you're making it so much fun for your pupils - they're very lucky to have you!
I was surprised the wheels stayed on. Another story a friend had a van and put a label in the van saying no valuables left in here. Some one broke in and wrote just checking.
Hi Valentina I grew up in Gosforth in the 50s and early 60s moved to Whitley Bay in 1963 and am still there now I adore history so love your historical facts keep the coming please
Here another little story. When I was a kid. Must have been about 1978. We went to Cornwall for holiday. Any we parked up in a multi story. Carnt remember the town or city we where in. But there was a craze where volks wagon badges where being stolen and sure enough my dad's car had his badge nicked of the front of the car. He was not a happy bunny.
The famous team my brother in laws uncle played for he is second one from the right.
Evening All,Hope everyone has had a good day. Mine has been eventful. Hubby ended up in A&E with carbon monoxide poisoning (long story). Thought that was it for him. It really scared me 😪 He will kept in overnight for observations. Daft man tried to come home worrying about how I'll get to hospital tomorrow 🙄
Thank god for our NHS I tell you it's in times like these I am reminded how lucky we are to have it (despite all the short comings).
I've had a good cry & just about packed an overnight bag for tonmorow. very worried about him so now my PM is going a bit crazy. Don't think I'll get much sleep tonight 😔 At least I know he is the best place in case something happens but feel very guilty to not be there supporting him. Sorry for the downer post, I just needed to air it somewhere.
I’m sorry your husband has been taken in unwell due to the carbon monoxide poisoning. I imagine you’re very upset and concerned. I’m glad you didn’t let him come home, because as you’ve said rightly, he is in the best place which is the hospital.
I’ve got my fingers crossed for him that he’ll be okay and you get good news tomorrow that he’s improving.
So sorry to hear Groott 💔😕. How did that happen? Definitely in the best place and don't feel guilty you can't be there you doing everything you can sending hugs and take care, keep us updated on how he's doing ❤️
Sorry to hear about your husband. Glad he's now getting the care he needs, and i do hope he improves quickly.
Try not to worry.
And do look after yourself too as it's tiring journeying backwards and forwards for hospital visiting and then usually having to answer the phone constantly once you get back to update friends and family when all that you need (and want) to do is rest.
Really sorry to hear what's happened to you both, Groott - you must be really worried. He's definitely in the right place and he'll be well taken care of. Make sure you look after yourself too! Carol
Thankyou all for such kind words ♥️ The baby is on her way to have the ablation. Managed a few hours sleep. Hubby is doing much better & got home early doors. He assures me all is well. Have left him to catch up on some much needed rest. He may even make it up to hospital later after my procedure 🤞 Squeezed extra bunch of hugs and kisses out of my kids & bribed the oldest with money to behave 😂 will update you all when I can. Take good care all x
Really glad all's well, Andy. Your photo of 'it' made it look bloody painful though - I'd be afraid of knocking against anything in case it broke the skin. You'll have to be very careful....
Good luck with your procedure today, think of yourself now as hubby is being looked after for you, maybe you can get up to the ward when your finished xxxx {{{{{ and a few hugs }}}}}}
Morning All - bit grey today (and not just my hair!), but it looks optimistic and the sun's trying to come out. Hope everyone's well. Don't go to work on Fridays so woke up at 5:30am, stripped the bed, washing on, birdies & squirrels fed, me - showered, teeth scrubbed and hair combed all before 8am and I woke up feeling like this YAY - don't you just love those days!
I could listen to Nina Simone all day long! I hadn't seen that particular video before. What a fabulous collection of photos accompanying the music. ❤️ Thank you!
Me too, Ramilia - isn't she just amazing, and that song is SO incredibly hard to sing properly. Her gorgeous smile must literally have lit up a room! ❤️Carol
I am, aren't I! Just waiting for the little blue-tits to visit the kitchen so I can sing to them - there actually was a blue-tit in the kitchen last Saturday! (and don't even think about mentioning the chilly weather re the blue tits if you're reading this, Andy!!). 😆😂🤣
Oh Blue - you've just made me splutter my cuppa on the keyboard! 🤣😂😅
hello
it’s a shame people still have to comment on how a woman looks. As if it reduces her value as a talented artist. It’s saddening. Women and girls need to be encouraged for their innate worth, talent / skills and for just being in this world regardless of how they physically look. Young girls have so much to battle regards how they are made to feel they should look and leads to significant mental health issues. Watch “ I am Ruth” BBC. Let’s just celebrate her for her talent. full stop.
I felt I needed to say this. Real change is uncomfortable.
1962 Marilyn Monroe sings "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" to JFK before 15,000 attendees, accompanied by jazz pianist Hank Jones, at Madison Square Garden
A real iconic moment - (and one of those Kardashians having the cheek to wear her dress recently at some 'do'.......... I was really shocked that the museum actually lent it to her!)
Mental health issues regarding how men feel about their appearance, especially those 18 years and above has also risen after a survey which was conducted by the Mental Health Foundation in 2019. Social media showed to be the biggest cause contributing to this.
Morning everyone. Yeh weather same over my way. Its quite warm though.I'm late up today! Gonna go do the dreaded big shop after my cuppa 🙄.
If you're stuck for something to do on Sunday afternoon, our patio, which is only wee, really needs a power wash. And our grass, which is only a wee bit bigger than wee, really needs cut. All machinery provided and maybe even beer!
No? Oh well, I suppose I'll just have to get on with it. Or maybe Monday. 😀
mate either I don’t get that joke because its so bad or it’s so subtle and clever, it just went over my head🤪 nightie night
Thought you might see an opportunity for a joke there - and you did! 👍
On the word 'wee,' I don't know if it happens in our other three nations or even in the rest of Scotland, but in Glasgow in particular everything is described as 'wee.'
'Would you like a wee receipt for that?'
'Do you need a wee bag for your shopping?'
'What a lovely wee dog/cat/budgie/snake.' On this one, we have neighbours who have a dog similar in size and look to an Irish Wolfhound - and one day I will ask what it is exactly - and they refer to it as their wee dog!
It's the same here in NI, Ramilia. I remember going for an ECG at hospital last year and telling the radiologist "I had a wee triple bypass after I had my wee HA" and she nearly laughed her socks off! We just can't help it, the word's ingrained in us.😂🤣
Thank you, Andy - that's three 6am laughs already today! 🤣😆👍😀
Morning to you all. Its glorious out today. Great conditions for rugby, its on TV , 6th round of the challenge Cup. Wigan v Leeds. Wigan will probably win but I'll be cheering on the underdogs.I struggled to sleep last night, do you think coffee kraken rum will have affected that? I was wide awake til about 3am! I went to bed at 12! 🥱
I updated someone on a post from 2months back but now I can't find it anywhere so I don't think they will be able to read it will they? 🤔.
• in reply to
Oh ignore that last bit, I can see my update now 🙄
Unless the post has been taken down by the BHF, it doesn’t matter how old the post is, you can still respond to the OP and it should give them a notification that you’ve added a response.
Off for my Saturday walk to buy a paper (only time I get one) and have a Spanish omelette. When I get back I will be busier than a cucumber in a (best not say or HU will slap my wrists) as have to clean and tidy as son coming tomorrow and partner just in from night shift!
I only buy a Saturday paper here. It gives something of a summary and background to the week's news. No proper Sunday newspapers here but the Saturday paper is several days reading for me.
Don't overdo it, take some breaks and look at the papers.
Very wet in Italy. This weeekend's GP has been cancelled due to flooding. It is a pity as the Emilia-Romagna is a great old style circuit and much better than the modern trend of computer designed borefests and street circuit! Sadly around eight people have lost their lives in the region.
I think it was good that they cancelled the GP as it sounds like Italy has enough to deal with, without having the invasion of F1 GP tourists & campers. It would just be too much to deal with in terms of trying to keep people safe / rescues etc. & the locals don't need that. 🙏's for those who have lost lives & for their grieving families. Also that more death's don't follow. Also that people will cope with the flood damage caused to homes, businesses, hospitals, etc. It will be tough for them for quite a while.
Let's hope the GP track can be restored for next year & not too many new changes made to the circuit layout.
In 2004 Michael Schumacher donated $20 million to the Tsunami relief fund. I would hope that the top drivers like Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen and Charles LeClerc put in at least €1 million each!
Morning all - just checking in. A bit dull & overcast here in NI today (makes a change - not!). Don't know what to do with myself as I did all the housework yesterday. Was up and about early again today so I've already had my walk to get next doors newspaper and put a wash on. Ah well, rounding up junk from the garage and a trip to the local recycling centre might be a plan.....how thrilling!! 😂🤣
🤣😂 Oh don't tempt me, Tos - I had to walk past it this morning again too🌭 I must have amazing willpower where those sausage rolls are concerned.😇 They do all sorts of yummy things, gorgeous wee home-baked savoury pies and I won't tell you about the sweet pastries - if I ever went in I'd need a shopping trolley to get back out again! Think a nose-clip might be in order when I'm going past it!😷😆
I've two hedgehogs visit the garden every night at the moment, at least I think it's only two!🦔🦔 . I knew they were visiting as I've been leaving food out for them and saw the tracks. Before I spotted them I thought they must be the size of hefalents (as my great-niece calls elephants 😆) judging by the size of the piles of poo - it's disgusting too!
I used to be a hedgehog foster mother, you would not believe how much they stink for little creatures. You’ll start to hear the mating sounds soon too, they sound like steam engines. Our garden used to be full of them, even in the winter, but strangely enough they disappeared as soon as we got our dog!! They like Iams puppy food the best. Good luck.
Much as I complain about the poo, Anon - I absolutely love hedgehogs. I've never been a foster mother (you lucky duck!😀) but I couldn't begin to tell you how many I've rescued over the years. They've already been at the mating nonsense this year, when they're not fighting that is - it's like Sodom & Gomorrah out there 😱and they're speedy wee scoundrels chasing each other round the garden too! I've started leaving separate food bowls out after the last ruckus and will definitely try the Iams (thank you for that recommendation) I've been giving them Brambles crunchy hedgehog food mixed up with a small sachet of meaty dog food and two big bowls of water of course - which I usually manage to trip over every morning when I'm putting the bird food out!😂
I’ve been on a few Emirates’ flights, but I know nothing about the topic of aerospace, types of aircraft’s I flown in etc, so I couldn’t say too much. I did read somewhere that Emirates were delaying their Dreamliner until 2024?
My wife tells me that when he was learning to walk my step son (now 39) had problems with stability and the specialist told her that the best way to correct it was to wear the shoes on the opposite feet. Apparently it worked, but the trouble was that she got fed up with people who thought that she had done it by mistake.
By the way I enjoyed the conversation you generated yesterday about learning history. Thanks.
I've a couple of enormous Marshall amps out in the garage somewhere, Andy - they'd be too heavy to post to you though and there's probably mice living in them too! 😂🤣 When I played keyboards in the rock band in my twenties we called the lead guitarist "All knobs to the right" - cos that's what he did to drown the rest of us out (probably not a bad thing either)!😂😱
I think the "11" only came about with that old Spinal Tap mockumentary, 1234. You never know though 😀I think there were rumours at the time that Marshall made one as a result of the film. Our guitarist sounded as if he'd gone up to 20 - all feedback and screeches - and then he turned the amps on! 😂😆🤣
I’m subscribed to YouTube however, have never needed to download anything. I suppose it couldn’t harm to subscribe and see? I believe when you do subscribe, they give you a free one month trial to download music. Anything after that, I believe there is a fee involved per month.
If you mean just to share here (or anywhere else), all you need to do is copy what's in the address bar in YouTube, which is the link to the video, and paste it into your post here.
confused - but if I take it as read, I was patiently progressing before I got a surprise appointment fora test, now I’m impatiently waiting till the day of the test. 🤨

I hope you’re all as well as can be. I’m not sure if I’m the only one that feels like this but, I have noticed with some newcomers who post a question on the forum, it can cause existing members to start squabbling on there. I know it sometimes provoked / instigated, and I’m not justifying that behaviour at all, but I feel like it deflects away from the OPs question, and they may feel awkward and uncomfortable, especially if it’s their first post and they’ve not had a clue about what’s been going on over that last couple of weeks on the forum. I don’t want them to feel unwelcomed and it makes me a little sad for them, especially if they’re in need of help 😔. The last thing I want is for them to completely remove themselves from the forum, which means they will miss out on our support.
I just thought it would be appropriate to express this. I hope everyone’s having a lovely weekend ☀️
I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your son. I know it’s not a “pity post” but I also wanted to commend you on your positive outlook. Despite your circumstances, you keep us all laughing (well.. maybe not everyone 🙈) and I’m sure we would all agree that you are an asset to this forum. Thank you for choosing to be here ❤️
Thank you for sharing what must have been the most traumatic time of your lives 🥺. I'm so sorry 😔
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful tribute to your son, Andy. I know you haven't posted a 'pity' post but it's very good of you to share what must be a very poignant piece of music, with a lot of reminders, for you. I'm deeply sorry you lost your little fella but I'm sure he'd be so proud of his Ol' Da for looking after the rest of us. Carol x ( anyway, I'm off, I've got dust in my eyes...and that doesn't happen very often to a tough old hen.)
Ok I know it's not a pity post but sending big gentle hugs your way 🤗 thankyou for sharing somethimg so personal with us all. I also echo the sentiment of you keeping us laughing and having such a positive outlook on life. Such inspiration for us all 😊
Evening All,Hope you all are doing well ❤️ A quick update from me. Still in hospital - post ablation complications but being well looked after. Just hating all the blood taking & BP checks but needs must I guess.
Oh the catering standard have dropped too (see pic) 😂 not that I can stomach much at the min so no complaints. The cuppa was still decent 😁
Glad you are being well looked after Groott & at least the tea is decent even if the food isn't. Hope they sort the complications & get you recovering well & heading home soon.I hope i'm not getting muddled up with someone else ... Is your other-half was / is in hospital too? - Is he any better also?
Thankyou for remembering hubby yes he is doing better & improving. It will take time for his body to recover thankfully he has taken sick leave for next 2 weeks to recuperate. I joked it's very good timing with me being in hospital 😂
Thankyou I hope they figure it out aswell. I'm just going with the flow of things. Making sure they keep my pain meds up so I'm comfortable. Don't want to overwork my tiny brain 🧠😂
Was still your little-un even tho grown that much, & you still miss him every -day Andy & thank you for sharing a tune that brings back bitter sweet memories for you.
He will be watching over you and laughing or groaning alongside the rest of us over your Dad-jokes.
Honestly, Andy - call that a good colour? I'm from NI and everyone knows our tea's the stewiest! My Grans teapot was bubbling on the stove all day long - you could practically chew it! And none of this nonsense of a tea-bag in a cup method!😀😂🤣
Happy Monday everyone. I hope you have a good day today. This is me being childishly artistic blowing bubbles from the balcony over the mountain top this morning! Sun is shinning. Sheep & little baby lambs are bleating in the field next door - much encouraged by my husband calling out "mint sauce" to them & telling them they are next Sunday's dinner! Rolls freshly delivered from the bakery & a cup of Austrian coffee for breakfast, then off out for a slow walk I think.
I’ve never understood that saying - babies generally cry, wet things, chuck up and demand feeding in the night? And when they’re teenagers they go to bed late and stomp around while you’re trying to sleep. It was a lie I tell you that it gets easier, a bare faced lie. 😊
Hey everyone bit of a late start to the day lol woke up bout 12 cause I did so much house work yesterday needed to be done place was a tip 😆🥴 so that was a major work out then today went to the gym and managed to burn off nearly 200 calories heart rate was 150 which is good went up to level 7 on the bike which I had never done, was a bit too much but was still happy. Safe to say I'm exhausted and can't wait to eat my lunch left over chicken pasta salad from yesterday 😋. Hope everyone is having a good day what you all been up to?
I'm waiting to see my EP. At the min it's just various emergency Cardio's seeing me. So far I've had 2 episodes of fast AF but boy have they been horrendous 😔 the rest of the time been in normal rhythm so don't know what next step is 🤷♀️
I’m sorry you’re not feeling well Groott 😔. I thought the ablation would’ve fixed it the first time around. Perhaps it’s been the weekend, that’s why you’ve not been able to see an EP yet?
Me too. A tad disappointed but it can take a few weeks for the heart to settle they said so still keeping my fi gers crossed 🤞Yes the weekend is always hectic. Hopefully tomorrow I will see my an EP x
Hi all, my slow morning walk got me to a bus stop, which got me to a cable car, which got me to this place up very high - where's there a hydro-dam & it's been 21 degrees in the sunshine, with 2 foot of snow still around & the lake still very frozen, but i found a little defrosted bit & a lovely mountain reflection to send to you all to see.
Like when I got home from school before my big bruv and sneaked the go-cart he'd lovingly handcrafted and painted, out for a run - straight down a hill in the middle of the street, fell off and chipped my front teeth - Dad had a good laugh about that but fixed the front wheels again before bruv came home from school! 😱🤣😂 (The go-carts were called guiders here then and everyone had one!).
Mums could be a bit iffy in the good old days too! 😀If we were out playing and misbehaving in my best friends garden or up to no good, her Mum would have given us both a telling off and smack on the legs with a tea towel. If I told my own Mum once I was home, she'd just have shrugged her shoulders and said "Well, you must have been doing something to deserve it" - end of conversation - and she'd have done the same to us both anyway😂🤣! All that 'discipline' didn't make us grow up too bad though! 😅
Yes. If you got a clip round the ear from a neighbour for misbehavin you couldn't moan about it when you got home or you'd get another one for misbehaving in the first place.
😂Oh so true, 1234 - and many a secondary clip I got too! Our lot tended to go for the 'I'll skelp your legs if there's any more nonsense" statement though😂🤣 The very threat of it was usually more than enough to make us stop and think!
I never got punished in school - they couldn't catch me! Our RE teacher, Pop McCorry, kept a lump of wood in his filing cabinet and would say to the boys "You, Boy- fetch mahogany!" and they'd have to go and collect it for him to rap their knuckles. He did a lot of sleeping in class - and his mouth would gradually fall open. One day we spent the lesson rolling up wee bits of paper and firing them into his mouth to score points and once when he dozed off we all moved our chairs and desks up the classroom and surrounded him! Ah - such fun! 😂🤣😀
I had a Geography teacher who used to do that when i was 11 .... My diabetic pal was needing insulin & he wouldn't listen when she tried to ask to leave the class - he threw the chalk board rubber at her, then after he'd turned back to the board to carry on the lesson I threw it back & it hit the board barely missing his head! He turned round to demand "who did that" - to tell me off ...& I just said Joanne needs the nurse & stood up & dragged her out of the room. I still don't know why i never got in trouble for throwing it back at him, but i know he never threw it again in any lesson. 😀.
It's nice to know you have a pleasant morning for your walk with Nixie. We are currently watching the clouds grow in the tree tops, before floating upwards & dropping more rain on us ... so I think it will be a bus ride into the next big town today & an indoor exercise walk around the dry shopping centre.
Thank you, V - I loved that Georgie Fame song about them way back in the olden days, you've just reminded me of it and you've probably never even heard of it - you little youngster!😂
Afternoon All,So still in hospital. Crazy fast AF runs but they are putting it down to the infection. Antibiotics & all the meds are making me horribly sweaty but the lovely staff have sorted me out a fan 😊 they saw me struggle with a paper 🤣
Been out with the scouts. The canistherapy team met them, but I didn't take the pooch. I had promised to go and don't like to let people down. Not sure that I was much help. So now on the bus home.
Thanks to all for the chat. It makes an old man very happy.😀😉
You poor thing, Groott - that's all you need to slow your recovery! Don't forget to drink your water either. Hopefully you'll begin to feel much better once the antibiotics really kick in. Carol x
hi Groot, sorry to hear that you are poorly. The fan might help but those horrible rubber hospital mattresses will be awful if you have a temperature and hospitals always seem to be red hot. Hopefully you will be out of there soon. Wishing you a speedy recovery. X
We moved last August after 30 years in a tenement to a house with a wee (real use of 'wee'!) garden, and stuck some spring bulbs in the very wee flower bed. Found out too late that the squirrels love to eat crocus bulbs. 🙄
I can't honestly begin to remember how many different bulbs I've planted in the garden over the years, Ramilia - they seem to love ALL of them. I read a few years ago that daffies are the only bulbs they don't eat as they're poisonous! I now have a garden FULL of daffies every spring. It does look lovely when they all come up though - I put a lot of different varieties in once I'd read that. 😀
Well I hope you do have a quiet & industrious day & that the Boss doesn't call every 5mins to ask you to dig stuff out & send it on because he forgot to sort it before he went 😄.
As I mentioned before, I have a garden for the first time. I bought a power-washer thingy and set about cleaning the patio yesterday. No-one told me that it was a top-to-tail mucky job. Every.single.thing.within.approximately.three.miles.was.covered.in.muddy.ick. Me, various planters, and the glass doors mainly. And flexible hoses: no one told me they had a mind of their own when not attached firmly to something else.
Oh, and flower beds: they contain life forms of major wriggliness and sliminess. Who knew? 🌻
Your post made me laugh Ramilla. I have a garden and I'm struggling to keep it under control. I try to do a black bag full of weeds and cutting back daily. We have a hosepipe ban here in Devon, so much as I'd like to power wash my patio (not really) I can't. Wondering whether to have it all taken up and a new one put down - but can I afford that!!! Oh to be wealthy!
I'm sorry you have a hosepipe ban. It's something we don't experience in Scotland. I had to look it up, and apparently we had a ban in 1976 and 1995. We're pretty good at rain!
Welcome to the world of creepy crawleys in the flower beds. Yuck yuck yuck!
Don't cut the wriggly ones in half as I understand both halves still live.
Don't bother chucking the ones in shells over the fence as they will still crawl home home again.
But i believe the real slimy ones without shells will die for a beer - bury a jar full of beer (leaving the open top at the level of the soil) & they will crawl right in. Then you can dig it up, screw the top on & throw it in the bin. If you only use a shallow saucer you have to clear up the bodies.
Time for a new Social Thread I think. Ten points for starting and five for posting.
It's the University Challenge Final next Monday - University of Bristol vs University of Durham (I did some telecomms contacting there around thirty years ago)!
It's nice when a single word / place name can spark a memory isn't it?I have a beautiful happy / sad memory from my only visit to Bristol .... Saw a mum & dad with a toddler out on a trip from the Children's hospital, they all had shoes & socks off & were holding hands & walking in the water fountain, with little-un between them kicking up splashes. Little-un was all strapped up with different tubes while the Nurse pushed the buggy by the side of the fountain with the medical equipment in it.
It was sad to see a little-un so ill, but really lovely to see the family all together having a special time despite the circumstances.
Good morning everyone. It's looking like yet another scorcher here in Devon. I've already been outside in the front garden deadheading flowers. Had to do it quickly as was still in my dressing gown. Once I'd put the bins out there was no keeping me in (know no shame).
Today I had a scheduled pickup by the BHF of a donated armchair. It was to be between 8am and 5pm, but they call 30 mins before, which is always fine.
So I am happily having a shower at 8am, exited the bathroom, and the doorbell rang. Dressing gown on, hair in a towel, I finally found the keys and opened the door. There was the BHF van team.
It seems somehow my phone number had got mangled in translation, and they hadn't been able to call in advance. I don't know who was more embarrassed, me or them!
However, I am not at all averse to hanging out the washing or sitting at the back having coffee wearing my DG and a towel on my hair. So go for it, jeanjeannie!
You've hit the nail on the head Andy. Yes, a shameless hussy is what I am, but I'm quite proud to say that it's many years since I was a shy young girl. I remember in my early thirties seeing a lady going out to her dustbin with a dressing gown and socks on and I tittered wondering how she could do that. Now in winter that person could easily be me. Do I care - nah!
We have a travel lodge hotel above our train station & there are always people in the station's Tesco's-Local shop in their jim-jams, dressing gowns & onesies!
Good afternoon to all.I've been given my marching orders over a lovely roast lunch so I can't complain can I? 😂 strict orders have been given to take it easy next 6-8 weeks but these people don't know i have gremlins at home 🙄.
I suspect I will be having dinner here as pharmacy is likely to take forever to sort the right meds out😆 but hubby is in stand by to run over as soon as I get the go ahead.
Glad they are letting you home Groott. And i do home you really feel well enough to go, & to cope with gremlins too! Do try & take it easy. Glad to see your hubby is back home. Hope he feels better too.
Thankyou I'm still unsteady on my feet but that us due to just laying in bed all the time. Definitely will be taking it easy. Hubby thankfully is more or less recovered 😊 Hope your having a lovely day.
We've had a lovely slow meander along the mountain village paths today thank you, with lots of rest stops & I found this lovely Sakura (cherry blossom) tree. In Japan the cherry blossom is a sign of renewal & healing & a time when their God's visit Earth to bring good luck & blessings. We were fortunately lucky enough to see it in Japan in 2019, & it was lovely to see it here in Austria too today.
Yeah paper work can take ages and yeah I can imagine how busy they are. Sounds like you been well looked after though x yeah I'm good gotta have some tests soon cardiac mri, holter monitor and echo before my check up in jan. But yeah keeping well just listening to music. That hospital food looked nice 😅😋x
Gosh a lot of testing coming your way, wishing you all the best with it👍🏻 oh yes food actually has been rather nice. Tbh today is the first meal I've eaten properly just not really had an appetite. Food has been asldequate 9d say nothing special 😂
Yeah was delayed cause I only got the letter back from appointment from jan that I should of got on 22nd of Feb lol. So probably will be waiting a while for all them tests. Yeah it looks nice I'm supprised. Yeah it's only problem when you in hospital you so don't have an appetite 😅. I remember when I was no matter how good the food was I couldn't swallow it with out chocking of being sick so I lost alot of weight yeah wasn't good. Looks like the best hospital food I've seen 😅🤣😢😋😉☺️. X
tell me to mind my own business by all means but I hope they carried out blood culture tests before discharging you. I’m hyper vigilant about such things as they missed endocarditis with me for months. I’m not suggesting you have this but I do worry that there is a lot of pressure these days to get beds emptied before people are 100% well. Mind you, I did complain everyday about wanting to go home so I did myself no favours.
I agree bed pressure us really high. I can't really complain they carried out various blood tests, CT Scan & ultrasound so guessing in my case they been thorough. I just don't understand the swelling from water retention. My legs swelled up just from the ride home (albeit it was an hour) 🤷♀️ let's see how the next 6 weeks go.
it’s good that they’ve been so thorough. Fingers crossed that your recovery goes smoothly from now on. The furosemide should sort out the water retention but keep an eye on it xxx
Yeah probably will take a while to go down hun if its a massive build up. I tried Amiloride, and furosemide but didn't work so my consultant put me on spirolactone that soon did the job xx
Hope you guys all having a great evening! Decided to go alot later to gym today and I prefer it I'm more awake 😂💪🏻😅. Burned 223 calories and I tried the step machine today was good did the equivalent of 6 flights of stairs! 😂😅. So I did the exercise bike and treadmill today aswell. Tried to go a bit easier on the bike today and I found my legs still hurt I could get up to level 7 going bit faster though so yeah well pleased! 😎😁😅
Morning all, starting out early as its nice out there, hope all is ok with those that know, will join you all later when its sorted { Wink wink } coffee first after a wipe around with a baby wipe, no water, long story, all ok here x
Morning Blue1958,Sorry to read you've got no water. Hope you can get that sorted quickly today. Know the wipey feeling all too well 🙈 Have a lovely day x
Omg fabulous 👏👏👏 my weightloss journey needs to start but been advised not at least for another 2 weeks 🙄 Embarrassing amount of weight to lose here. All built up past year thanks to all this malarkey with the heart 😪
Marvel3000 I’ve gained a little bit of weight over the last year too after my heart attack. I’ve recently started my weight loss journey and although I can’t say I weigh as much as TWU, as everyone’s BMI is different, there are some great workout videos on YouTube for beginners/starters. Really easy exercises too and quite fun! The sun is also a perfect reason to go walking as well to burn a few more calories. I do wonder some days why can’t it be as easy to lose weight as it is to gain it! 😒
Yes I can't wait to start walking that has been my downfall. Confined to being at home due to being so symptomatic then ofcourse eating my feelings away Lol oh yes gaining weight is so easy 😂But only 7 more days before I can officially venture outdoors for walks & also start exercising 😁
Marvel3000 that sounds like a plan. But remember to ease into it, especially with the swelling in your legs, it might be a good idea to keep some weight off your legs for a tad longer before walking as the pressure can make it worse x
so I’ve aggravated my carpel tunnel playing air guitar and the drums (side of sofa) while I lye here on said sofa (all I can do at present to get rid of the chest pain) having now listened to “first cut is the deepest” five times really loud (only way to listen - on head phones though). I just love the drums and the guitar on that one especially instrumental bit ❤️
Your fault for mentioning Rod. 😂
But shows the power of music to lift the spirits. 👍
Had a fun day as it was beautiful weather so sat in my mum dad's garden was lovely. Decided I was gona do some skipping with my neice big mistake was out of breathe after few seconds what a joke still got bit of pain in chest aswell 😅😜. Majorly over done it today but was still fun ain't done skipping in years! Feel old even though I'm only 25 lol 😂😂😂😂.
That's brilliant, TWU - it's an inspiration to others when you show what can be achieved through hard work and determination! 👍👏👏 (You could have a big cream bun and a fry-up now to celebrate🤣😂)
There's a few of these visit my garden too Andy - one of them's so big he/she has a cleavage!🤣 (My bruv has named him Don Corleone2 watching the way he wobbles about the garden! 😂)
