Ivabradine and codine

I’ve just had dental surgery to remove 3 wisdom teeth and the dr is going to prescribe me codine to go alongside paracetamol for pain relief.

Has anyone had experience of taking codine and ivabradine please? I know we’re all different and tolerate medications in different ways; I just wondered if anyone could offer any lived experiences please?

Many thanks and best wishes,

There's no interaction between the two soap enzyme cyp3a4 for iva and cyp2d6 for codeine. Codeines awful drug imo. It causes headaches in so many ppl and sometimes makes pain worse which is strange as the enzyme converts it straight to morphine anyway.

Get equiv dose of morphine if he will or source it ureself if needed..

That’s helpful to know. Other than making me a bit sleepy (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing) I’m doing ok with it. They won’t discharge me with orimorph I was told yesterday but advised that I can contact my gp to get a prescription for it if needed. I’m hoping I can manage with the paracetamol and codeine as I could do with working tomorrow and Friday, even just for a few hours as it’s really busy at the moment.

Thank you for your reply 🙂

I had a back problem and took co-codamol as well as being on ivabradine with no adverse effects.

I take ivabradine daily and routinely take prescription codeine with paracetamol for a separate health issue and no problems. I take other medications also for autoimmune and clotting disorders. Everyone is different but I don't have any problems. Hope your dental pain improves soon

Hi Esentepe

Thank you for your reply and your well wishes, I really appreciate them.

Yes I’m mindful of the individuality of people and I know that I tend to be quite sensitive to medication of any sort but this time the codeine doesn’t seem to be quite as effective as I was hoping it would.

Still I’m going to try and persevere 🙏

Don't know if you can tolerate non steroidal anti inflammatories such as ibuprofen but these can be taken alongside codeine and paracetamol. In these early days post procedure it may help if you can. These type of things are miserable for a while. Hang on in there.

I had to take Dihydrocodeine along side my Ivabradine after the open heart surgery and cant remember any issues.

It made me a little sleepy and gave me some weird dreams but i think that's just because they were strong .

Hi Tess1406

Thank you for your reply, it’s really appreciated.

I too have been feeling a little sleepy with the codeine, on the 60mg dose. That does make sense about the dreams, thank you for sharing your experience.

I take both Ivabradine and codeine regularly. They don’t interact with each other. Codeine depending on strength can make you more fatigued but the Ivabradine doesn’t make it worse.

Hi Hidders

Thank you for your reply, it’s really appreciated.

I’m definitely feeling the fatigue 😂 but I managed to have an uninterrupted night’s sleep without waking in pain which is great!

Onwards and upwards 🤞🏼😁
