Hi it’s me again whilst waiting for Open Heart Surgery and having pre op the nurse phoned me last week to say that the Professor who is doing surgery wants to see me( I’ve never had appointments with him but his registrars) Due to being Overweight and other health issues he is now considering a TAVI procedure I know how this is done but apart from a valve needing to be replaced I also need a bypass.
Im confused can a bypass be done through the TAVI procedure. Once again thank you for any advice that is given x

I am sorry that I do not have the answer to if it can but some others may do but what I would say is wait for your appointment get these questions written down what you want to ask , trust them as they want the best outcome for you and see what they say
I was told before a Tavi was suggested for me that if they have you under the anaesthetic and something goes wrong they will then open you up and finish the job with open heart surgery.......not suitable in my case.... too risky. Worth asking as one of your questions when you see your surgeon.I found out afterwards this is pretty standard.
"can a bypass be done through the TAVI procedure?"
No.
This week has seen the first mitral valve replacement in the UK via a TAVI style procedure, so TAVI style surgery hasn't reached the limit of its potential applications. But it's not yet advanced to the point where it can handle bypass surgery.
Hi thank you for your response it’s all so confusing. I was just thinking then how would they do a bypass on me if not open heart surgery or do I have to wait until hopefully one day I would be healthy enough for the surgery.
Hi. I had OHS to replace two Valves, Aortic and Mitral, and wasn't offered an Alternative. I did ask but the Surgeon said No, there isn't one at the moment! That was nearly three years ago now and maybe it's changed. You will be fine, I'm sure whatever you have. I am 😊. Good Luck 👍
