Hi there - my mum has a TAVI operation for a stent in her aorta coming up in July or August. She's in her early 80s and didn't know she had any heart problems until a fall a month back. Can anyone share their experiences of this procedure please - especially what happens post-op once the stent is fitted. How do you look after yourself afterwards and what medicines are you typically given?
Many thanks in advance!

I’m sorry to hear of your mum’s fall and hope her upcoming surgery is successful.
I don’t know anything about the procedure but just wanted to wish you both well and I’m sure there will be plenty of people along soon to give you the support you’re looking for.
Aw hi so sorry to hear about your mum. I haven't had this procedure but I am waiting for a valve replacement myself and wanted to wish your mum all the best for her operation in July and with her recovery ❤️❤️x
Hi Curiouschapel I had my aortic valve replaced 10 weeks ago via TAVI I can tell,l the op was fine you are awake with some sedation given to keep you calm You are in no pain apart from a odd oh when they give you a another injection something You can feel the sensation when there push the probe in but no pain just a prodding feeling Afterwards I had to lie flat for a few hours I was in 2 days but I think you get out quicker with a stent Post op they give you instructions of what you can do week by week and the cardiac nurse should see your mother soon after she is home if she is offered cardiac rehab tell her to take it.There are talks from professionals and exercise is tailored to your personal, fitness.
I am 75 so only a few years younger than your mother so tell her not to overimagine the op It was so much better than I thought and the staff were lovely and supportive Meds will be tailored to your mother's needs. I am on blood pressure, colestrol ,a stomach one as I have a long standing acid reflux problem, aspirin and paracetamol
I had a stent after heart attack in 2019 age 70, no bother at all as no general, just sedation and and all went as Cappachina says. All happened in a rush of course - most annoying thing was being made to stay in bed for I think 2 days and having to use a bedpan - dreadful cardboard things that tended to collapse! Not allowed to get out and use commode untl nearly ready for discharge. So that was all I was worried about!
