Today I went into work and gave my talk on my experience, it was a whole school assembly, there was a lovely gentleman from St John's who talked about AED's and CPR and then I went on to explain what happened to me and how I probably wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them.
After the talk some of my students gave me a lovely bunch of flowers and chocolates. I had a lovely chat with some of my kids and some of the teachers.
Mum was also there, keeping an eye on me.

Iโm really happy to hear the talk went well. I hope it was educational for the kids and you also got to enjoy it!

Hello
Well done V I know you were a little apprehensive but I think not only hearing someone talk about it from experience will have helped them a lot but hopefully when you go back to School they will go gentle on you and not play up as much
They like giving you flowers and chocolates don't they bless them
Glad Mum came and kept an eye on you if only she knew though what you have been getting up to x
The kids like me what can I say ๐ I'm there favourite teacher ๐ the ones that presented me with the flowers I've help a lot so it was nice, I will add they also gave flowers to the St John's Guy.
Well done and what a wonderful thing to do. Hopefully, sharing your experiences with others will have a positive knock on effect and help someone in the future. Whilst I don't want to always be defined as "M who has had a Heart Attack" I have become a bit passionate about pointing out that not everyone has "classic" symptoms when asked what happened. Was told the other day that what happened with me has been discussed at H&S discussions at my local pool. All the best for your continued recovery.
You are brave, they will remember that and sharing our experiences is what helps young people to grow .๐ชI am teaching about the heart at the moment and a student actually asked me about afib ! I wasn't brave enough to tell him I have it but he should have learnt alot . Guess, he might know someone who has it. Hope it puts his mind at rest.
Sounds as if you had a brilliant day, Valentina. And well done, for plucking up the courage to give your talk in front of the whole assembly! You've given everyone an insight into what happens with a HA, how they can help to prevent it, and what happens next! You could well have saved some young futures with that talk - you're an inspiration to them. Carol x
Well done Valentina! I bet that took some courage and Iโm sure you were shattered after. Hearing โlivedโ experience will have been more meaningful for the children and Iโm sure they will have learnt a lot. Another step in your progress ๐ค
That sounds so lovely! The biggest part is that you may never fully know the impact that your story had on some child within that assembly.
For example, I was leading a conference with teachers a few years back and one young man came up to speak with me after the last session. He started by saying that I might not remember him, but I had been his professor for a reading class in college. He then reminded me of what I had told my students that whole semester about the benefits of reading aloud to your students and of how I modeled that practice throughout the semester. He then explained what he now taught and of how he was using readalouds to help his students. (I did remember him by the wayโwhere he always sat in classโand how he was quiet and respectful. But I had no idea how he was taking in the lessons that I was teaching.)
He reminded me that day of how important it is what we say to others and of the power of our words and actions. You may have planted the seeds today through your story that will push some young student toward becoming a doctor or toward becoming an ambulance team member or becoming a researcher who may develop a new medical device to help heart patients.
So, you were brave and told your story from the heart, and you enjoyed talking with students and teachers, and you received gifts. It was a great dayโbut you may have also changed someoneโs life in a profound way just by sharing. I hope that you feel really positive about what you accomplished this day!! โค๏ธ
I've helped one student in a different way already, he was a very troubled boy, never doing homework, very disruptive I took him under my wing and helped him with homework, got him help in other lessons, spoke to him about his home life and got him help there. He is a completely different person now.
That's just a small example it goes a lot deeper anyway we had a career week a few weeks ago when I was first off but this boy said "I want to be a teacher like Miss Valentina (okay so he didn't say my first name but you know what I mean) so I can helps kids like me โค๏ธ I was told this by the school it made my heart melt and he was one of the kids that gave me the flowers yesterday.
Well done Even while you are recovering you ae having a positive effect on your pupils still teaching the They will never forget the lessons you taught them
Well done for being brave and sharing your experience; sounds like it went brilliantly and Iโm sure youโve helped all those children to understand that little bit more. After all, knowledge is power ๐
