My father turned 80 last month and has 6 stents in his heart currently. His first very mild heart attack occurred in 2010 and since then over the years, he's had further mild episodes where he had to have these other stents put in. He has also type 2 diabetes since around 2000 and although this has been very controlled and not that severe, this no doubt led to the heart problems he has now.
Over the past few years he's been well and no issues but then this week he was admitted with some intermittent chest pain. He's going to have an angiogram in the next day or so to see what's going on.
I guess my question is, what options does my father have at this stage now because I've heard it's risky to keep having stents put in esp past 80? And also heart surgery isn't a viable option apparently either at his age...? I've read conflicting opinions online.

Can't offer much to this as only needed to join the group today .However, what I can tell you was when my dad was around he had 3 Ha's first at age 72, then had a triple bypass at 80 !
But I am sure these things are assessed on an individual basis .
I'm sure your father will be offered the best option for his individual circumstances 🙏
Hello
First please take no notice of what the internet says as they do not have your Dad's medical records neither done tests on him and know how fit he is in his 80's but his Consultants do and their job is to do everything they can
I know how worried you must be but let them do this angiogram and take it from there even people in their 80's if they are fit enough they will do all they can just like they would someone younger
If you have time let us know how your Dad get's on x
I Know a 97 year old who just had a pacemaker fitted. It will all depend on your dad's physical condition as well as the state of his heart. Age isn't a barrier to surgery. It depends whether he could cope with it. They will choose the safest and most suitable option.
