Ticagrelor

I was prescribed Ticagrelor following open heart surgery in October. Last week I was hospitalised urgently suffering from Melena (black and tarry stools) caused by internal bleeding. Has anyone else had this? Please.

Thankfully no, it sounds quite nasty I do hope it doesn't cause you any long term problems.

I have been on Clopidogrel since 2017 with no issues, then in October 2021 I was put on Ticagrelor and Aspirin, it should have been for 12 months and I was then to go back on Clopidogrel.

I only managed 6 months as the Ticagrelor made me have episodes of breathlessness for no reason and also made me bruise easily.

Our body reacts differently to certain medication which can also depend on the other medications we could be on.

There are a lot of blood thinners about so hopefully they'll find one to suit you.

Like Heather I am sorry this happened to you and I did not have this problem even though was on the same med but we do all act differently

They will get this sorted and now be aware of how this blood thinner effects you and I imagine will be careful what they put you on if blood thinners are needed
