Ticagrelor to Coplidogrel

Good morning all.

4 days ago I switched from Ticagrelor to Coplidogrel after awful heartburn. Since the switch I've felt so ill. Constant headache, feeling sick, chest pains and heartburn worse than before. Has anyone else had this and if so did it settle? My GP is never interested and my post HA appointment is not until end of October. Thanks in advance

DO you know your current blood pressure? Agree with Maisie speak to GP asap (if not your GP another one in the practice if possible).

Hi Charpop I was taken off ticagrelor and put on clopidogrel over a year ago, I have been constantly complaining to GP re awful head and generally feeling unwell have changed beta blockers to channel blockers twice no change and recently put back on atenolol, clopidogrel is the only med that hasn’t been changed. My Gp sent me away last week to try a nasal spray for three months in other words dismissed me. I hope you hear from your Gp soon look forward to hearing what they say.

Hi and thank you for your reply. I will let you know what they say if they ever call me. It's so difficult at the moment trying to speak to someone and to then get a dismissive GP when you do it's frustrating. Was interested to see if anyone else had experienced this so thanks. I'll keep you posted and hope that you manage to get sorted soon!!

I had same experience on ticagrelor feel so breathless and tired really frightening had to use spray to help looking to change med does it get any better can't stop or would

Hi Staff and Charpop i am also considering switching. I stuck it out with all the horrible side effects with ticagrelor for 5 months post HA and 2 stents. Nose bleeds, bleeding gums, migrains, anxiety, stomach pains, blood in the stool, shortness of breath and chest pains. Things did get better but the tightness and trouble getting a deep breath was always there just more tolerable. Unfortunately at the 5 months the chest pains got worse alternating from tightening to stabbing and burning, esophogus or trachea rawness, sores on my tongue and now heartburn again. After a week of worry i finally went to ER and demanded EKG, blood and chest xray which all turned out ok. Must be the ticagrelor as now only on it and asa. I am worried about switching and side effects with clopidogrel.

Felt like you so much changed over not so much breathless now take with Asprin morning and hbp tabs and beta blocker evening as suggested by surgeon has been better he said at least sleeping during any side effects

Do hope you feel better sometimes you feel you don’t own your body anymore

Thank you for your replys and hope you're feeling well as can be. I've had to switch back to the ticagrelor as the clopidogrel made me feel so poorly I couldn't function. My HA was 30th April and my follow up with cardiology was the 28th October but it has been cancelled with no alternative date. My GP is reluctant to keep changing my meds so I think I just need to accept chest pain for the next 8 months .

Try to hang in there with the ticagrelor side effects which start off really nasty. It can go one of two ways the chest pain and breathing can get worse and if it does get in to your emergency hospital. It might also ease up so it is tolerable. Near 6 months for me since HA and 2 stents ( one on top of another because of RCA tearing). I really did not think i could handle all the side effects of ticagrelor but they got better. If not for walking and hiking i would be in a straight jacket. The HA then all the meds , then trying to get a cardiologist to call me, talking to GP on line and not being examined or getting tested for possible complications was very stressful. Hope you get a handle on all of this and you are on your healing journey soon.

Hi I’ve just read your struggle with ticagrelor, I was desperate to find out if this is normal for some people as my 81 year old mum had a heart attack on weds this week, 2 stents were fitted and she’s now been put on this drug, she seriously thought yesterday and the day b4 that she was having another heart attack! We know she needs a drug to stop the clotting but she feels so ill on it, her blood pressure also dropped. My partner takes this drug with out any side effects. Seems it doesn’t agree with many people. Sounds like you have persevered.

Hi there i still struggle with the side effects of ticagrelor and after talking with many who are on it and emerg doctors i would say what they all have said except my cardiologist. Clopidogrel is better tolerated by older patients and has worked very well for years. Get your mom to switch over and try the plavix/clopidogrel instead. Firstly the cost secondly as she is in her 80's there are way less horrible side effects. Research shows that ticagrelor is not the wonder anti platelet that pharmaceuticals say it is. I wish my cardiologist was more open to change but she is being convinced by the drug promoters that tica/brillanta is the new and improved and everyone should be on statins too haha.
