Ticagrelor and Amlodipine

hi just came out of hospital and again with unstable angina. The consultant changed me from clopidogrel to ticagrelor been on it four days now and feel awful. The shortness of breath is worse than the angina and nosebleeds I was fine on clopidogrel. He has also added Amlodipine and since been taking this the dangly bit in my throat is now touching my tongue and making me feel that my throat is swollen. Has anyone had any reactions to these tablets. I will be ringing my doctor tomorrow thanks.

Hello :-)

I was on the same med Ticagrelor but not the other one you are on but even my Cardiologist when it was time to come of them said you might find your breathing improves so they seem to know it can have this affect

As for nose bleeds I had one that bad once I ended up at A&E and there after during the period of been on it I had my nose cauterized 3 times so far since been of it I have not had to have it done since

I think what kept me going is knowing that I needed to take it and that I would be able to come of it after about a year but if I thought I would have been on it long term I could not have kept coping

I know this may not be what you want to hear and it does not affect everyone this way

As you adjust to it these side effects might improve but if their intentions are to keep you on it long term and they don't then you need to get back to them as like you say it is worse than the Angina itself

Just wanted to let you know though that you are not the only one that has had the same side effects

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Thank you for your kind words ❤️ I am on such a cocktail of tablets. I just feel I take one step forward and then one step back. They got the pain and shortness of breath under control and then change or add tablets and I am back to square one. Thank you again I hope your feeling better you really write some kind posta as I know your going through a lot too xx❤️❤️

Hello :-)

I know the feeling and not my heart meds now but since there seems to be always something going wrong to set me back and then even though maybe a weeks course some other kind of med given me all end up giving me side effects and it does get you down I know it does and feel for you

But they will get the right combination for you eventually it is just for some of us it takes longer than we feel we can bear but you will get there so try and keep telling yourself this is just for now but it will come good :-) x

I was given ticagrelor after my heart attack and the apparent shortness of breath was horrific. It was so bad and my GP wouldn't change it that I stopped taking it about 4 days before I had to go back for another angiogram. The consultant went up the wall and had to give me a big loading dose of clopidogrel before he could do the angio . I had a pulse oxymeter which showed oxygen was 99% so i was actually getting enough but the feeling was l ike having asthma and gasping for breath. It's apparently quite a common reaction with ticagrelor. I would insist that you go back on clopidogrel

Hello. I was put on Ticagrelor 90 mg after my heart attack and took it for a year. I was then reduced to 60 mg lifelong. It’s four years since my heart attack. I did get short of breath and was taken off Bisoprolol and Atorvastatin as the doctor told me they were the usual protagonists for shortness of breath. I have been great till my first dose of the dreaded illness we’re not allowed to mention. Since then I have become asthmatic and have developed other things that have nothing to do with the meds. ( I had another dose of the illness at the beginning of this year.)

Hope you find your own balance of meds soon. Take care.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. I am currently on so many tablets list below

Bisoprolol 2.5mg ISMN MR 120mg Asprin 75mg Paracetamol

Lisinopril 2.5mg Amlodipine 5mg Ranolazine 500mg x2 Codine 30mg

Rosuvastatin 20 mg Ticagrelor 90mg x2 Levothyroxine 100mg

I had my heart attack in September but just thought it was indigestion so carried on till shortness of breath was unbearable. I had an angiogram and have 100 percent blocked RCA had another angiogram in January to try and stent it but didn’t work so now waiting on Roblation and angioplasty to try and stent again. Consultant says a reasonable chance. I have been in and out of hospital since December and now my thyroid levels are sky high so honestly don’t know witch side effect is coming from where. Feeling pretty low about the whole situation. I am hoping to get my life back. Thank you again just feeling very blue xx❤️❤️
