Palpitations

Hello , new here . Hubby had 3 stents filled around 8 years ago , 3 blockages. He’s recently been having disturbing bouts of unsettling palpitations, these come at random times at rest and while working. He’s on aspirin and 80mg statins . I’ve managed to get him a doctors appointment and was wondering what the next step might be . He’s 59 and otherwise fit and healthy.

Hello :-)

The Doctor might refer him back to the Hospital to check if everything is fine which is a good thing if he gets the all clear they may look at his medications he takes

Of course if anything gets worse before he sees the Doctor then it is 111 or A&E

Hope the appointment is soon and let us know how he gets on :-) x

thank you for the reply and support, he had his appointment this morning and while he was there the palpitations started again , they did an ECG and have placed a 24 hour monitor on him which are really small now ! he’s lucky to have had the checks to which we’re grateful, otherwise fit and healthy and as we speak has gone off on an 8 mile bike ride . Hopefully they will be harmless but even so needs investigation. Thank you for all your help x

Hello :-)

In a way I am glad the palpitations happened while he was at his appointment at least that way they saw it was happening with their own eyes as we say and as a precaution put the monitor on

Like you say he does sound healthy but always best to check and I really hope you will let us know how he gets on :-) x

hello , a quick update on hubbys palpitations . He’s had an update from the GP , he has an extra heartbeat which is ‘ normal’ and nothing to be concerned about, huge relief .

Thank you for your help and valued support.

Welcome. Its always sensible to check such a new symptom, particularly with a heart history. . The NHS website is v clear (look up Palpitations) saying they are most often benign. The GP may do some heart tests immediately, at the appointment, and may also look at other possible causes

thank you yes , he’s had an ECG and has been fitted with a 24 hr monitor , he’s pretty fit otherwise so hopefully it’s nothing to worry about. Thank you x

That’s good the GP is onto it.

good evening, quick update on hubbys palpitations . He had a call from the doctor today, he has an extra heartbeat which apparently is nothing for him to be concerned about.

Thank you for the valued support.

yes thank you , it’s always very concerning when symptoms occur after a heart attack and stents , thankfully this is nothing to worry about. Thank you once again for the support x

sorry to ask again, another recent problem… hubbys still having extra beats but now with dizziness, lasts a few seconds but when he does get them he says it feels like he’s ‘ going to go’ . If it happens once more much to his resistance I’m calling for an ambulance, he gets cross when I say what I’ll do but I will override him .

if you're worried by a new symptom, do get an Ambulance. But another choice is to call 111. I’ve always found them very good, and thorough, tho’ it can feel like a lot of questions, as they have to be sure to do the triage right, to get him what he needs.

thank you yes I will , hope you are well also. take good care x
