Has anybody suffered from night-time palpitations, or palpitations that are specific to trying to sleep or lying down. I have had this condition of about 4 years, every night without fail. I dont get them at any other time.
I have seen 3 cardiologists and have had every test under the sun but still no diagnosis or real clue to what is going on. I'me told that my heart and bloods are all normal, so they are saying possibly PVC's . I have been given beta blockers and statins as a matter of course.....any ideas folks.

When you say palpitations what do you mean? Is it a raised pulse, irregular heartbeat, an awareness of your heartbeat or a mixture of these? I have palpitations myself but it's a mixture of all. That said my heart rate has been slow at night since I've started bp meds.
No, I get hard single thumps in my chest like a mini explosion....I dont get a fast or irregular heartbeat, just the big thumps. Its like my heart stops for half a second then kicks in again with a bang. It happens about 30-40 times a night. Verty strange and a bit scary...but the docs say its benign PVCs, but I'me not convinced.
Yes I get that as well but not especially at night.Unpleasant isn't it! I've had it for years and was told it was anxiety but since I've been treated for my bp I've got the other symptoms.Off to see a cardiologist who is also an electro physiologist next week.Hopefully I'll get some answers.
4 years is a long time, do you fight to go to sleep?
When I was trying to quit my sleeping/anxiety tablets and a few times begore that, I would fight to go to sleep. I would even dream I was awake trying to get to sleep and all this increased by heart rate and sometimes give me a head buzz. I would then be so tired in the morning even though my total sleeping hours were around 5 or 6.
Yes!! What you’re experiencing is ectopic beats. I get them at night and during the day sometimes. I’ve been told anxiety too. I’ve only experienced them for the past 12 months since the birth of my daughter. Welcome to the club 👎
I’ve read that a hiatus hernia can cause palpitations and that lying down can aggravate the hernia - possibly worth exploring as an option?
I get palpitations at other times, but the steady, bounding ones I get at night are by far the worst and sometimes feel quite scary. I was initially told anxiety, but after a load of tests revealing nothing untoward, the reality is I simply turn over (sometimes turning onto my other side eases them, but not always) with the knowledge that I’ll either wake up in the morning or I won’t and go to sleep. Now, you tell me how that’s anxiety, because it it was anxiety I wouldn’t be able to sleep with those thoughts, would I?! 🤦♂️😂 I can actually go to sleep when I’m having them, and having had anxiety in the past, I can differentiate between the symptoms and feelings and these are very different. No one’s ever said to me they might be ectopics as per the other replies, but I do have SVT, so that would actually make some sense. Also makes me wonder if that’s what all the palpitations I get are 🤔
Yeah, its a real pain not knowing whats going on...like you if I shift my position they disappear....in my case I have to sit up or get out of bed...but hey I'me still here to tell the tale after 4 years !
Good to know I’ve likely got at least another two years, then - don’t go dropping down any time soon, please! 😂
Out of pure curiosity, do you also feel them in your throat when lying down? When I get palpitations during the day, it tends to just be awareness of my heartbeat in my chest, but in bed it’s both my chest and the side of my neck. I can sometimes even hear my pulse, too - you’d think I’d been running for my life.
No,I don't get them in my throat, just my chest...it feels like a single hard bang...my wife said she can hear it sometimes. I have had every test you can think of including sleep studies...it's cost me a bloody fortune....all we can do is go with it and hope something changes....good luck with yours mate.!
