I understand that i take Clopidogrel for 12 months, and the aspirin for life. Do the other meds depend on how my progress goes or will I need to take those for life too? I will be asking my GP but was wondering about other forum members experiences. Thanks for your help. Judi

I think it depends on heart of individual, I'm on them for life, I take ticagrelor instead of clopidogrel as it's better for me. I have stent every few years. 5 so far. They keep adding or increasing the doses, I started in 2011. My sister started 5 yrs ago and had triple bypass and is barely on anything. Healthy eating and exercise do help, but unfortunately are not total solution. Take care. Moni
I was not sure but I think the same other than the one we can come of after 12 months which then they up the dose of Aspirin we stay on the rest or that is the impression I get
I speak with my Consultant in a couple of weeks it has been something that has crossed my mind so I will put it on my list to ask x
Hi BeKind28, I too will speak with my doctor, as seems to be the general view we take them for the rest of our lives, still one less would be something! Take care, Judi x
Hi Heyjude31 I take clopidogrel pantoprozole and Bisoprolol these meds I will be taking for life because my right coronary artery is blocked! I came off other meds because I couldn’t tolerate them. I think it depends on your condition I would ask your GP or cardiologist. Take care😀
We are all different as no 2 people are the same. I take 14 different meds (most of them twice a day). Someone else may take a lot less and some a lot more.
Discuss with your cardiologist or GP. At the end of the day they act on the information they have and that you give them.
Hi Gazzer83, thank you for replying. I will speak with my GP, as you say we are all different. Take care, Judi
Hello Heyjude31
When I asked the same question to a ward sister, the answer was like something from Carry on Matron .
“ Don't be silly Kevin of course you will be on pills for the rest of your life, you have just had a heart bypass , not had your lolly taken from you !”
I don’t know who was more surprised at her answer me or the nice chap in the bed opposite who chocked on his tea,
You are not always left on them. Your GP should do an annual check up. I was taken off everything but for aspirin, a statin and a low dose diuretic and a stomach protector.
Thank you Qualipop, it would be great if that were the same for me too. I am four months post bypass x 4, so I have a while to go yet, so fingers crossed. Many thanks for replying.
Thank you Qualipop I think you are right but with annual check ups at least I can see how things go. When I stop Clopidagrel I should only be on 4 tablets so I shall be grateful for that though I still have my insulin injections. Take care, Judi
Was on Ticagrelore for a year, Ramipril for about 2 (taken off because of the cough), took myself off Lansoprozole after 3 years, had my Bisoprolol stopped after 3.5 years, but have to take Aspirin and Rosuvastatin for life, apparently.
It really depends on your blood reports and test results, I'm one of those that every review they add more, then they complain about how much medication I'm on! Take one step at a time, take care. Moni
I think we are all different. I was on Clopidogrel for over 3 years, I have temporarily come off it since I had 2 stents fitted in October but my prescription says I am to go back on Clopidogrel October 2022 so not everyone is the same.
I didn't prior to October and the stents just Clopidogrel, now I take Aspirin and Ticagrelor, but they'll both stop in October and I'll go back onto Clopidogrel alone.
After my Heart attack, my edoxaban dose was halved, put on aspirin for 1 month and clopidogrel for 1 year. All the other meds (ramipril, amlopdipine, statins and so on for life) At the end of the month the edoxaban dose was restored and aspirin stopped. 5 months later after heart failure hospitalisation, the same regime was introduced and loads more meds added. This time, my GP had a chance to start playing with doses and by monitoring BP, weight and blood glucose they have adjusted various doses up and down. Generally though, I have been told that these things are for life
