Hi I have been on 1.25 bisoprolol for many years now for hbp and have been fine but things have altered over the last few months . Can you let me know if it’s ok to have a pulse rate of around 48-53 whilst on this med? Sometimes it’s higher but it worries me when it’s so low. My bp seems fine.

I take bisoprolol 5mg and my resting heart rate can be around 45bpm, even lower when asleep. No ill effects. In my case exercise lowers it eg 5km run three times a week. If I miss out on exercise over a period it creeps back up to 50 or more.

I am on 1.25 Bisoprolol plus other meds and my Apple Watch shows an average of 46bpm over the last six months. I queried this with my doctor and she said that was ok. My BP is and has always been fine, even before my heart attack, the reason I am now on the meds.

Hi Anxs - I’ve also been on Bisoprolol since my last HA in March + my pulse rate (I record it each day with my BP) since the start of August has been between 47-60 each day. Like you, my Blood Pressure has been fine. GP has said this is OK for me but I’d check with your GP/Cardiac Nurse etc for your own peace of mind.

My GP told me a low BP is always good, but if below 60 and I feel bad then don't take Bisoprolol the next time. My prescription was 1.25 in the morning and 1.25 in the evening. For more than a year I take now only the 1.25 in the morning and my BP is around 70-80.

You have to remember what Bisprolol is, which is a cardio selective beta blocker...its job is to slow your heart down..thats what it does.

That’s fine. Don’t worry. It will help you feel calm and relaxed whilst protecting your heart

If my pulse was as low as that, I’d be flat on my back gasping for breath a feeling totally ill. But some people can tolerate BP that low. Speak to your doctor, he may lower the dose

I take Bisorolol 7.5mg and my heart rate averages around 65bpm. I never feel totally well for which I blame Bisoprolol. My heart specialist says that BP should be over 100. Mine has risen from daily 60 to approx 90.

Hi BPM should be around 70, 100 BPM seems quite high !! I take 7.5mg Bisoprolol daily as well, and mine is between 45 to 50 bpm. I also take Entresto 49/51mg twice a day and 10mg Isosorbide Mono Nitrate twice per day along with Statin 10mg at night. Oh and a 75mg Aspirin along with Omeprazole 20mg Nearly forgot the 25mg Eplerenone alternate mornings. My Cardiologist cut my dose from 10mg Bisoprolol to 7.5 when my BPM came down to 33 BPM and as I say it is stable between 45/50 BPM. My BP is a little low last 4 days 103/53 HR 56. 89/46 53 95/49 55 94/56 54 my GP wants me to keep a record hence reason for taking it daily at the moment !!!

Regards

ps I don't have any side effects from these medications !!!!

Hi - when your cardiologist says BP they’re referring to blood pressure (eg 120/70). Heart rate (beats per minute, or BPM) is different. Bisoprolol lowers the heart rate - meaning the heart doesn’t have to work as much.

I'm on 1.25mg and my resting rate is generally around 52bpm. Sometimes it goes as low as 46bpm. I have found eating certain foods will lower the rate and alcohol raises it.

I don’t think you need to worry if you feel OK (not dizzy or lightheaded). I take 10mg daily and my pulse is always 50 (I have a pacemaker). My cardiologist is very happy with that.

I have been on 3.75 for some time now following a HA two years ago. My heart rate is consistently around the 45 mark. Apart from on occasions feeling a little light headed I am fine.

Hi Anx, I take 2.5mg every evening and my BPM is around 45 to 50 while at rest. Doctor says its fine, I feel ok although tired sometimes but that could be down to the flecainide!
