A new series started a couple of weeks ago. Each programme features an operation at Royal Papworth and another at Addenbrookes. A friend had a triple bypass at Papworth five days after totally failing an exercise ECG and I have had surgery at Addenbrookes. Maybe not for the squeamish!

It's on tonight at 9:00 pm on BBC2.

Yes I always watch it, most interesting. There was another post about this a while ago, it was saying that it is not all good and loads of those operations go wrong, but that it only to be expected in my opinion, considering some of them are in dire straits.

My husband died after surgery at Papworth, all I can say is that there were a lot of failings on their part.

It is a good program. The funny thing is I can watch the hart ops no problem.

But get just a little bit squeamish with the other stuff.

Yes, I have to say I just have to watch these programmes, fascinating, and life changing for us their patients! I had aortic valve replaced and a single bypass using the mammary artery, 2 years ago at Harefield Hospital partner of the Royal Brompton. I had a bleed after the op, had to go back to theatre, be reopened and had it sorted! But I knew nothing about it as was still in recovery, before they took me back. I’m widowed, but it was my son and daughter who were getting frantic as they were not getting positive news during the day, just comments like being observed still in recovery. Eventually they decided if Mum wasn’t going to make it they’d rather be there, so 8 pm set off from here, when call came en route, I was ok!!However I survived and am jolly thankful to the team!

And yes I do know they appreciate me, though I’m a pain at times to them I’m sure

Three surgeries down the line, the first 27 years ago, I've had good and bad, but, I've never watched a single programme on Heart Surgery in all these years. I've absolutely nil interest in what they do during the surgery. I suppose it might seem odd, but, that's just me....

Brilliant programme, I watched them all. The mitral valve one was good.

I've been watching the current series and the previous ones. Some of the things they're able to do is mind blowing. Of course a lot of these procedures are really at the edge of the possible so sadly some of the outcomes are not good, but in a great many of those cases some of these operations are the last available option. Amazing surgery and very very brave patients - I really don't know if I'd be able to face some of the scenarios highlighted.

Yes Michael JH. I have been watching these. I remember the series that started it all off years ago. Your Life in there Hands. Also on BBC2. Doing all types of operations. But obviously moved on a lot. Enjoy your weekend Brian
