Bisoprolol 2.5mg/think it slowed Insulin down.

Insulin now seems to have slowed down as I'm type 1 Diabetic, now having hypers think Bisoprolol has messed my whole system up, waiting for cardiologist to answer me sent him email, really don't feel great now, anyone had trouble with there diabetes on this drug? thanks for all the answers so far.

Hi Roban. An interesting post. I've been on insulin for over 30 years, and I'm very insulin resistant, so have to take quite a high amount of units from 2 different types of insulin.

I have Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (with obstruction) and 3 x CABG inserted in 2019.

I too am taking Bisoprolol, Initially started on 2.5mgs, then 5mgs and currently on 7.5mgs which I take at night.

I've been on this medication for 18 months now.

Personally I don't have any issues, that I'm aware of, between the Bisoprolol and the Insulin.

Whilst waiting to hear back from your Cardiologist, you could contact the BHF Cardiac Nurses, via this site.

Or Diabetes UK who I'm sure can give you support and information. Hope you get it sorted.

Hi. I’m T1 diabetic - 41 years. Because of all the new meds I’ve been on since my HA and triple bypass in May I can’t tell what drug has affected my diabetes. I do now take a bit more insulin than I did pre HA (Tresiba and Fiasp) and I wear a Libre sensor and finger prick before meals, but I also think I’m more conscious of my condition and the effect it has on my heart. A huge wake up call. I hope you get some answers soon 🤞

Hi Sewing19 I am also type1 of 34 years. I have a libre sensor, would you mind my asking what your blood sugars average at. I am trying to get mine down further but with all the meds after my bypass it can be a challenge. Thanks for your help, Judi

Hi JudiGood to hear from someone in the Hearties/Diabetes club.

It’s a daily balancing act isn’t it. I have not been good at all over Christmas. I didn’t consciously take 2 weeks off but I certainly let my guard down and enjoyed what I ate but I definitely felt the guilt. But, in the words of Rag and Bone man, ‘I’m only human after all’ 😂.

This week I have upped my exercising and reduced my carbs but have had several hypos. 🤷‍♀️

Before my HA my HBA1c was around 56. It had taken me years to reduce it to that. (I’d been in the 70’s for a long time). I’ve checked today on my Libre and it’s 65, but I find that there are discrepancies with Libre and blood test HBA1c so I reckon I’ll be around 60. I’ll try and get it under 58 before my annual check in June. The other day when I had to have an eye injection (Macular Oedema) the ophthalmologist said they like the HBA1c to be under 58.

Like you I don’t know how all the meds have affected it. It took 5 months to get my BP into the green zone.

I also lost 10lbs after my op so weight wise I feel ok.

I forget some days that I had a serious operation in May 😀 I’ve got so used to treating my scars and taking my meds daily that it’s just routine. It’s only when I had to rush for a train carrying a suitcase in December that I remembered that I was still recovering. 😂

Now and then I feel really fed up with diabetes. It would be great to do stuff without all the planning. Like going for a walk and only carrying a phone and not all the other palaver we have to lug around. Having diabetes is on my mind 24/7 (I think I’m much more conscious of it since having a Libre as I automatically do a check if I wake up in the night and then act on the result) But then I think how lucky I am to live a more or less normal life, before the bl…y C🦠of course, travelling, socialising, doing hobbies, walking etc. all because we have insulin and the technology. Are you on a pump? I took the decision not to have one. If they’d been around in the 80’s when I was diagnosed I would have.

Sorry I’ve rambled on so much, but it’s good to talk to someone who understands and is going through the same things.

Hi Sewing19, Christine, thanks so much for taking the time to send such a lovely note. It is very kind of you and never apologise as you are not rambling at all. I can totally relate to everything you say, oh how I wish I could go for a walk, as you say just with my phone. I need to focus on reducing my Hba1c as they have been 65 but due to all the meds I have been on they have been very up and down. They are currently in the 70s. I am trying to eat more of a plant based diet to see if that helps. May I ask how you got the Hba1c reading from your Libre please? Did you review using the past 90 day review on the machine? If you have any diet tips please do let me know. I am hoping to get a pump if I can, my libre is good, but it can be a couple of units out compared to my old blood sugar machine.
