From what can gather Bisoprolol slows the heartbeat down, Well here is my concern. If does do what it says on the tin, where does it leave me as I have a resting heart rate of approx 52bpm and lower during sleep. I am concerned that it may drop it too low and cause all sorts of issues. I have not started taking, I wondered if I should talk to someone about it or has anyone out there had a similar concern or experience?

I think if you have any concerns speak to your Gp about taking your beta blocker but it’s also there to help blood flow to the heart if you have any chest pain ... Best to speak to your Gp ...♥️

Hi, I was prescribed bisoprolol in hospital after collapsing when my heart went into AF. My normal resting rate is around 55-60 and during the night in hospital my monitor showed my HR at 32, I was discharged on bisopropyl 2.5mg but felt so ill that I had to stop taking them. My GP tried a different beta blocker but my HR was still too low. I now take warfarin to try and stop any blood clots from forming while I wait for my mitral valve replacement surgery.

I would certainly recommend that you speak to your GP about any concerns you have.

Hi, my situation is different in that I suffered heart damage from a pretty aggressive chemo routine. I was prescribed bisoprolol with rampiril but suffered terrible headaches and dizziness. The cardiologist changed the bisoprolol for ivabradine and I've found it easier to tolerate. Either way, I think you have to try and stick with it and the side effects usually subside, but ask if there's an alternative if they don't. Take it before bed rather than in the morning and you may find you sleep through the worst of it. Good luck.

I had a similar concern. I was very fit but still had a heart attack (probably stress) about 5 years ago when I was 64.

My normal resting heart rate was about 52-55, but a few months after my HA, I started getting tachycardia attacks when out walking or doing moderate exercise, my HR would suddenly go up to 150-180 and only come down slowly when I was resting.

This was attributed to the formation of scar tissue which has the effect of disrupting the normal electrical pathways for the heart muscles, it was suggested I try a beta blocker.

Originally we had avoided a beta blocker because of my low HR but I was tried out on 1.25mg of Bisoprolol and it fixed my tachycardia straight away....I was amazed.

Anyway, the effect of this tiny dose was to drop my resting HR to 44-46 and my BP down from 115/70 to 100/60.

I'm still here after 5 years and have just got home from a good work out at the gym, but I do struggle to get my HR much above 125 even when sprinting on the exercise bikes, I don't suffer any really noticeable side effects, no dizziness or lack of energy, but I do have a problem with cold hands esp. in the winter, it becomes a real problem for instance when playing golf in anything below 5C, very difficult to warm them up even with hand warmers.

My advice for what it's worth is to start on 1.25mg and see how it affects you, but remember we are all different and react to drugs in different ways.....good luck.
