I was given bisoprolol because I had displayed signs and symptoms of sinus TACHYCARDIA. which I do have but its not worrisome to the cardiologist, and so I have been on these pills 2.5 for almost 2 and half months and I developed a cough with phelgm and two weeks ago a bit of a runny and congested nose. Has anyone here experienced these symptoms? The cough is awful, I went to a doctor to get it checked; out and everything looked fine.
I have since gone down to 1.25mg and hopefully come off of this drug.. Honestly getting sick of it, and it's not really helping me too much as my heart rate and BP have not changed much in the 2. 5 months I have been on beta blockers.
Thanks,
Sean

Hi Sean. I have been on 2.5mg of these pills for about 3 months. I still feel tired and lethargic + have a runny nose , but am persevering until I see (probably a call) my doctor week after next. I will discuss with him what my options are as I do have high blood pressure and am also on 5mg ramipril.
I don’t have a cough. I would like to come off bisoprolol or at least cut my dose.
Hopefully a reduction in your case to 1.25mg will help but don’t forget it’s also prescribed to protect your heart from too much strain.
Sean, I have been on Bisoprolol 5mg for just over a year. My nose started running incessantly afte a few months. Mentioned it to the Cardiologist at my appointment a couple of months ago and he just stopped grinned and said it was a very common complaint. I asked him if I could try 2.5mg to see if it made a difference and he agreed, writing to the surgery accordingly. However, the surgery haven’t agreed because of my high blood pressure - the problem is that my BP is resistant to treatment! I also had a cough recent that was like never before in that I was coughing so much I was reaching especially overnight and one night in particular I was unable to take a breath and was panicking whilst getting down the stairs to boil a kettle for the steam. I do wonder whether Bisoprolol was behind the severity. Better luck to you with trying 1.5mg but do talk to your Dr before stopping completely- he may be able to switch you to another drug.
My wife has been on Bisoprolol 1.25mg for less than 2 weeks and has exactly the same side effects; a worsening cough with phlegm and a runny nose. She also has sinus tachycardia, and it does lower her pulse slightly, but her hypertension (which resulted in a stroke a couple of months ago) is controlled by Lercanidipine. She had to come off Ramipril because of a dreadful dry cough, had breathlessness and hives when put on Clopidogrel (waiting to go on Dipyridamole now instead) and has even more powerful drugs to cope with because she has cancer. I'm hoping she can come off the Bisoprolol (its also causing muscle weakness) since it was not prescribed by the hospital but by her GP to counteract her breathlessness - which largely cleared up when she came off the Clopidogrel. Hope this helps.
