Should I Start “ From Couch to 5 K”

It’s a year now since my mild heart attack due to come off my anti platelet shortly but still on Mini Asprin, Perindopril, Bisoprolol, Lanzoprosol, and Atorvastatin.

Walking well doing a couple of miles or more daily but now thinking of starting “ From couch to 5K “

Should I ?

You need to ask someone who understands your particular condition. Have you got a cardio team you can ask? Otherwise, ask your GP.

Neither were prepared to answer when I asked if I could drop the anti platelet for 5 days to have a tooth extracted. So would be a total waste of time in my opinion. They said I had to decide myself. 🙄

That is appalling I know they are under a lot of pressure, but they should be able to answer such a basic query.

Hey there

Great to hear you are feeling well enough to contemplate this! I agree though - definitely speak with your GP (or cardiologist if you have an appointment coming up).

Also, perhaps use it to ask about the meds - i was on a similar cocktail as you, though my anti platelet stopped after four months (clopidogrel)… and I was only on the lanzoprazole while on both the antiplatelet and the aspirin … so could come off lanzoprazole once off clopidogrel. Anyway, perhaps worth speaking to GP about that too.

(In my case, my cardiologist said I could do mild exercise once fully healed from Cabg and I am doing some brief stints of jogging during my walks, and monitoring my heart rate using my apple watch. But you really must discuss with the medical professionals - you wouldnt want to set yourself back!)

All the best.

As long as your GP says it is okay then definitely do C25k. I've had 5 stents and started c25k at the end of the first lockdown. It is one of the best decisions I've ever made. It starts really gently and apart from feeling better the sense of achievement is wonderful. I just did my first 6k at 60 y/o - which is a surprise as I always thought I'd hate running. Try start now before the winter kicks in and take it gently. Follow healthunlocked.com/couchto5k as you will get lots of encouragement and excellent advice. Good luck with it - you won't regret it :-)
