Should I bother with A&E?

(Please don't panic) but I went to A&E because I was having heart palpitations. But as per usual, they found nothing. I was still having heart palpitations and honestly I still am now. They haven't let up and I'm getting worried but do I go back when I have to sit in a room for 6 hours ago, just for the to send me home?

I don't know what the best option is...

I would go back or ring 111 for advice . Always best to be checked out then you are reassured .

Keep us posted how you get on 🤞everything will be ok .

If you are not happy making the decision to go to a+e, whilst having symptoms, ring 111. They will take the decision away from you, more than likely they will send an ambulance. Don't worry about phoning, if an ambulance is sent, they prefer to come to you, rather than go to some drunkard or drug taker. Above all don't stress about your condition.

Don’t bother with 111 just go to A+E. Or try a walk in centre.

Have you found anything or any particular time that sets it off? Keep a diary, time and activity etc and take it to the gp.

The more you head in the bigger the picture they are creating about you, the better they can help you.

I hope you've got this sorted now, but for future I'd recommend getting a smart watch that has an ecg built in. My AFib was detected by using one and would otherwise not have been picked up as the episodes were sporadic and never happened when I had an ECG in a medical environment.

Going against the grain of your other replies...if you were having palpitations at the exact time of the ecg, it was clear, and nothing has changed since, then I’m not sure going back to A&E is going to achieve anything different. Are you feeling in any way unwell? Other than an awareness of your heart beating, have you got any other symptoms? Is your heart rate normal? Is it regular? Palpitations in and of themselves are not something of concern. Worrying, particularly if you’re not used to them, but an ecg would have picked up anything abnormal that might be behind them. Assuming that this is something that happens at least semi-regularly, have you asked your GP about organising a holter test?

I had a holter test last year and they found two out of my four heart valves aren't working but no one since has been helpful in terms of finding out the cause or what to do for the symptoms.

And I'm fatigued, can't get out of bed and resume most of my daily activities. I'm short of breath of lot of the time.

But I see where you're coming from! Thanks xooxx

Can you not speak to a cardiologist?

A&E are more interested in turning people round quickly - (even if unresolved) - to hit the Government 4 hour targets.

Yeah I spoke to the cardiologist the day after (long story short) and it was to move up my appointment but no one has really kept up with me in terms of my health which is why I felt the need to go to A&E.

It's making me think, I might try and get a private doctor to have a look at me

😔 This has been going on for around a year.

That's pretty much the reason why I'm getting a private doctor to look at me a week tomorrow coz the NHS as great as they are just keep saying I'm stressed and anxious. Have you tried hypnotherapy?? Heard if your are anxious / nervous it's meant to be really good. The one I'm seeing on Wednesday does a discounted rate for students

Hey everyone! Thanks for the replies <3 My internet has been dodgy all day so I haven't been able to reply.

But my heart palpitations have calmed down quite a bit since yesterday. I've had them since Wednesday and I think they were triggered because that morning I woke up way earlier than I usually did. I basically over-did it. I had a holster done (privately) last year and they discovered that two of my heart valves aren't functioning as they should be. But since then, I haven't really gotten further with finding out why and etc.

However it's kinda clicking that my cardiologist is neglecting me big time and I've been in touch with them multiple times. They've said they are doing the best they can but I need to be looked at sooner rather than later. So I'm thinking that I'm going to have a private consultation and/or get referred to a different hospital. Because this can't run.

Thank you for your help everyone. Honestly if I get really bad I'll call 111 to see if they can do anything.

Unfortunately, due to the current state of the NHS we all need to push that bit harder to get things moving.Otherwise we are victims of that terrible word ‘triage’ where you are either classed as urgent and sorted or non-urgent and put on the ‘back burner’.

Personally I wrote a letter to my own cardiologist weeks ago about my medication. No response. I have not pushed only because I have other things going on medically right now.

Good luck and hope you get sorted.

Hi, I believe your first port of call should be to your GP. I recently had heart pains for 3 days before asking our GP or advice. She suggested I go to A&E, so I did. I was there for 12 1/4 hours, having had blood pressure tested twice, and two sets of blood tests because the first showed a problem. The hospital doctor told me if my second test wasn't clear, then I would be staying overnight. One week later after having my MOT at our surgery, my bloods came back clear. So please take advice, and no matter how long you might have to wait, get tested as quickly as you can.
