Nearly 2 years ago my husband had a cardiac arrest and had 2 stents fitted. He is completely recovered now. We are hoping to go to Austria next year. Can someone suggest a Travel Insurance company that is sympathetic to hearts that also has good Covid protection. Or maybe should we go through a broker.
Many thanks ,

I have an annual policy with Staysure, 12 months worldwide cover (except US the Caribbean and a few other places) which costs £330. It isn't the cheapest, but it does provide very good cover, which if you have a heart condition is important. It's bad enough thinking about the "what if I'm unwell on holiday" without the issue of will the policy cover me.
I have used Staysure for my previous years travels. I have had 4 stents inserted, 3 in 2017 and a further one in 2018. Also have moderate Aortic Stenosis. I take out annual worldwide cover including USA etc and cruise cover. Just got 15 months for the price of 12 for £640. Sounds expensive, but have booked holidays to Mexico, Canada and Norway in 2022 (two of which include cruising), so not too bad.
I am about to renew our travel insurance. MI and stent November 2020 and hoping to start travelling again this year. We are serious travellers and an online quote over the weekend with Staysure, annual world wide travel including USA, Caribbean but no cruising, came back at £380, impressive.
Hi - I used Nationwide Building Society . I have annual insurance cover with one connected to an account, I upgraded the insurance to cover my heart problem. It was much cheaper that way.
I have just renewed my annual travel insurance linked with bank account for my wife and myself. It covers me worldwide 31 day each holiday or cruise and apart from age linked premium it cost me £156 extra after having two stents fitted. Staysures quote was over £1000 and cover not as good. I worked in insurance for over 35 years so go over the policy documents thoroughly.
Staysure for me ..... but other brands are available.
The key thing (as with all insurance) is to make full and accurate declarations up front.
I was surprised that quotes were as cheap as they were. But I guess heart disease and treatment is so common that it is a big market insurers don't want to miss out on!
Like others I found Staysure gave a good quote initially then changed to Explorer when their quote went up significantly after 2 years. Explorer don't give a re-quote at the end of their annual policy and I had to apply again but used them for 2 years. Like all insurances it is worth switching now and again if you are on an annual policy. They both have different levels of cover so worth checking the details of what is covered in each level. Basic cover usually has a restriction on altitude (about 2000 metres). You might exceed this in Austria if planning to use cable cars during your travels. Excluding Spain on an annual Europe policy used to be cheaper -something to do with the level of claims- and they won't necessarily offer this unless you ask. It could all have changed now with Covid claims from 2020. Worth checking single trip insurance against annual insurance if you are only planning one foreign trip in the year. Happy travelling.
