NSAIDS are a no no for those of us with UC as they can cause and worsen a flare up. I suggest you speak to both your Cardio and Gastro to find an alternative.

Ring 111, they are working over Easter.

Ok thanks, I always feel they are a bit vague in the past...

They can be variable but can be excellent. Worth a try!

Yes they are usually very good, they must be very busy. I rang at 8 o clock at night , they called at 5.30 the next morning and said , ring your GP . Like you was having a very bad flare up ( when you’re on blood thinners you become shocked at the bleeding) . Glad it worked out in the end . I do wonder about the aspirin . Ps did they tell you to stop the aspirin?

No, keep taking the Asprin,as apparently it won’t irritate the bowel...only the top stomach and colitis is in the bowel end?? But I understood that it can affect right through🤔who knows🙄

I rang 111 yesterday for almost the same thing; dreadful stomach pain from aspirin. I'm on new stomach protectors and wasn't sure how much extra I could take or whether I could stop aspirin for a few days. Phoned at 9pm; got a call back at 1am who said she couldn't advise on medication and booked me for the local urgent care to ring. They rang at 2am. That's 5 hours to get a reply. The gP who rang said it's been mayhem; over 290 calls that day just from people who hadn't been able to get a GP appointment last week.

Yes I tried to book with docs last week and there are no app for next 3wks....what’s going on🤔

Too latenow I'm sure but the doctor told me it was fine to stop the aspirin for 3 or 4 days until my stomach settled because they stop it for up to a week when people are having am operation. Today the pharmacist at my GP's told me to s tart it again tomorrow to get the coated aspirin because it's my upper stomach affected and to take it any time of day whenever I have the biggest meal. A little concerned as I get diverticulitis and have excruciating abdominal adhesions and most things that work in the bowel give me dreadful pain. We shall see.

things are settling down now thanks...I always take soluble Asprin in plenty of water, straight after my bowl of porridge and it doesn’t seem to cause any problems🤞Good luck!

My hubby has been taking aspirin since HA 2016, he has coeliac disease and lymphatic colitis, hasn’t caused him any problems. He cannot take other NSAIDS but has been told aspirin ok. Do you take any PPIs ? He has found Omeprazole causes problems during a flare up so halves his daily dose. Have you posted on the colitis forum?

I have been fine since Dec, then a week ago the surgery rang and said I should also be taking Lanzoprolol as a tummy protector. They did a prescription and I have been taking it for 5 days, did notice in the leaflet it can cause diarrhoea!

I Had to stop the lansoprolol because of the diarrhoea, but we are all different.

I had to be taken off it because it caused tummy upset. Have been taking aspirin for a year and take it with my nightly bowl of porridge and am ok. This is someone who could not tolerate any of the post bypass medication and am surprised I can tolerate aspirin. I suffer from both irritable bowel and bladder so I sympathise

pills with oats or porridge really helps i find. Lansaprol made me feel slightly queasy so stopped.

Did the doc put you on Lansaprozol a proton pump med to protect stomach? Many go on that with the heart meds .. I just take mine an hour before the med cocktail.. should help if you can get some from doc

Maisywhippet profile image
Maisywhippet in reply toPeterpPiper

Yes they did last week

I was prescribed the gastro resistant med too after my bypass but am now waiting result of colonoscopy as have inflammation in my bowel that has meant some embarrassing moments while out walking!!! I wonder if it’s my heart med causing it- will be interesting to see.

Yes I am a variety of heart meds .Plavix, Rosuvastatin Bisopropolol and telesmartian for BP.. something is causing irritable bowel... I hear you about the dog walking .. Same...thing for me.. I think it’s anxiety producing because you know you are not near a toilet ... trying to figure it out

Quiet Walks near lots of shrubs for camouflage!,😂

Personal experience " developed severe gastric pain, acidity and bloating after 2 stents in August last year. Was put on same plavix plus aspirin. Remedy: lansprozole 30 mg first thing in morning ( continue) with levopraid 50 mg BID 4 weeks. Aspirin coated with lunch and plavix at night. Take peppermint with aniseeds tea after meals. Eat less after every 4 hours small portions. Don't discontinue without Cardiologist advise for at-least 6 months your life depends on it. I discontinued plavix at 6 months and still take aspirin daily 75 mg coated

Have been on Asprin and clopi since angioplasty in Dec.No side effects at all, then my surgery prescribed lanzoprolol last week as they said they’d noticed it wasn’t on my meds and should have been! So started taking last monday...by thurs I had a flare of U.C. Don’t think it’s caused by the lanzoprolol, just coincidence..now in A &E awaiting solution to stop the UC getting worse, as last time I was hospitalised for 5 days, don’t want that again !

Alison_L profile image
Alison_L in reply toMaisywhippet

Hope they manage to sort you out without having to stay in a&e all day xx

Maisywhippet profile image
Maisywhippet in reply toAlison_L

Thank you,it was all very efficient, only 3hrs!They agree it’s colitis, but couldn’t prescribe steroids to stop it getting worse as inflammatory markers were ok🙄so, I wait and see if it rights itself or it goes worse like last time and then I had to go in for 5days! Still I’ve done my best.

Yes, have checked out the Asprin and clopi side of it,and was told they wouldn’t have an adverse effect on UC situation.

Hi, have they not given you lansprazole or some other PPI to protect your stomach? If you cannot get in touch with your doctor, speak to a chemist.

Maisywhippet profile image
Maisywhippet in reply toScho1

Yes given lanzoprolol a week ago by doc (bearing in mind I have been taking the Asprin and Clopidigrol since Dec without it!) chemist was reluctant to offer much advice as there were heart meds involved.

Scho1 profile image
Scho1 in reply toMaisywhippet

That's awful to leave you so long without a PPI. I do hope you see some relief soon. Take care.

My Doc has had to stop the esomeprazole, it was giving me terrible purging diarrhoea, I literally couldn't leave the house , it might protect your stomach but wrecks your bowel

Hi

I have been taking Aspirin for 2 years.

You need to dissolve the aspirin in water and drink milk with it. This will help a lot I am quiet sure. Aspirin not sit in stomach and tear the lining. You should take Lanzaprol also to reduce the side effects.

Maisywhippet profile image
Maisywhippet in reply toNEPHIN

Hi, yes I always dissolve in water. I had no problems for 4 months. Doc added in lanzoprolol to my prescription last Monday...since Thursday I have had awful diareah, I’m now thinking it’s caused by the lanzoprolol,as it’s listed as a side effect, maybe it just doesn’t agree with me .
