Changing Bisoprolol to Verapamil

I have been on Bisoprolol for a while now, last year it was increased to 10mg.

I have been more tired and breathless since then. I have been waiting months to see the consultant cardiologist who visits my hospital. I saw him 2 weeks ago and he told me to stop the Bisoprolol straight away and take Verapamil instead. I have not been so tired and breathless since then but my AF has got worse and my legs are red and stiff. I wonder whether I should have come off the Bisoprolol so quickly since many posts here have been told to wean themselves off it it. My GP suggests I go back onto Bisoprolol but I do not wish to do this. I am not due to see the cardiologist for six months. Does anyone have any advice please.?

Hi Pippa80I don’t think I can be much help. I had a triple bypass and mitral valve repair 2 years ago. I’ve since become breathless again as the valve is leaking again plus I’ve been diagnosed with heart failure. I should have seen Cardiologist in Jan but this was cancelled. Gradually got worse ending with a collapse and 3 days in hospital. They’ve now reviewed my medication and stopped 3 types of tablets and added one more. They’ve also reduced my Bisoprolol as my BP was down at 84/48! I feel sympathy for your problems as I also am now waiting Echocardiogram to find out what’s going on.
