Hello I was in hospital 3 weeks ago for a scheduled angiogram and possible angioplasty. They didn’t need to do the angioplasty as I only had minor narrowing in right artery, checked my LAd which had two stents two years ago and all is good. I had been experiencing severe breathlessness and exhaustion and chest pain for about 3 months. I. Have asthma. Consultant has taken me off bisoprolol as he felt this was causing irritation and inflammation in my airways and worsening my asthma. I was unable to walk even small distances, I am 65 but felt like I was older. He said it. Would take 3/4 weeks to see a measurable improvement in breathlessness. It is slowly easing I have been out for 20 minute walks getting a bit breathless at end. I have to see my doctor again in 10 days for a check up. I am hoping it is the beta blocker which caused the breathlessness and nothing else. Has anyone else had similar problems with breathlessness and. Bisoprolol. Excuse typos using IPad.

Bisoprolol and severe breathlessness
I had very bad breathlessness that was attributed to Atorvastatin.
Bisoprolol did the same to me as did atarvastin, Rampiril gave me a horendous cough I have been on half a tablet of losartan 12.5 and still mildly breathless , saw Dr last week and he wanted to put it up got severely breathless I am in despair ... decided to stop all tabs couple of days ago and all ready feeling better😕
Dear mrsp70, I found the same as you. I just take Losartan 25mg and thats ok. Ramapril gave me a cough, and i switched to Losartan. I found Bisoprolol really made me tired all the time so stopped and feel so much better. I have 3 stents 2 years ago and feel pretty normal.
Like you I switched to Lasartan but only 12.5 mgs. Had that cough on Ramipril, like you and others. I’m not sure about stopping Bisoprolol just like that without consulting your go or consultant. It does give warnings abut possibility of rebound problems. How much were you on?
Anyway best wishes for 2020
Hello Lynne1a, I hadn't HA back in March and initially really struggled with breathlessness and fatigue whilst on bisoporal and as a result was weaned off it fairly early, which helped at the time. Unfortunately I too have asthma and have recently really struggled again with breathlessness and fatigue. Have had to increase the usage of my puffer which helps a bit with the breathing but not the fatigue. Due back at the doctors next week for another check up. Also on Atorvastatin so as I see others have posted will ask about that. Reading what I have written I apologise for the waffling but guess what I'm trying to say is I think you're doing the right thing by keeping in touch with your doctor. Good luck. And Happy New Year.
Thanks Allan for your reply, very helpful. I suppose it is all a guess as to how we react to procedure and drugs, some people at my cardiac class are fabulous no problems and some like us struggle with fatigue and breathless issues. I’m still smiling. All the best for 2020 and here’s hoping we get our issues sorted.
I had a bad reaction to bisoprolol, not breathlessness but my pulse dropped to 41! Cardiologist took me off it and I never looked back. There are lots of stories here if you search under Bisoprolol. I think all of us would advise never stop taking prescribed medication before discussing the implications with your GP or cardiologist.
My husband has asthma and was prescribed Bisoprolol after heart surgery. He asthma became terrible and the GP took him off this and it instantly got better. Crazy as the NHS website states it’s not suitable for asthma sufferers. Hope you feel better soon
It does clearly state in the leaflet that it is not good for people with severe asthma. I have asthma and have just started using it and find it does make make a bit breathless now and again, will talk to my GP about it after the New year, hope there is alternative.
Have you had your thyroid checked ,tried acupuncture it can be a recognised symptom of heart failure dysponea .Function Dukes analysis .I suspect a genetic connection too as Late Mother had very severe vascular Multi infarct dementia where function virtually nil as well as cognition.Even before the cardiac revived with angioplasty all tests did not show especially in women so possibly a test re the microvascular should be happening as agreed to over 2 years ago .There are research trials happening but GPs treating as a guinea pig & neuro at Royal Free Watchful Waiting .Keep on top of all infection with cultured antibiotics as believe it will be found to have sepsis connection.I am walking around with a Reveal device when implanted the alarm went off
