Hi, I am due to have an MRI stress test with Adenosine next week. Just wondered if anyone on here could tell me what it was like as I'm nervous about being in the tunnel and sedation is not an option. Did it cause a lot of breathlessness and pain for any of you? I think if i have an idea of what to expect I'll be better able to manage it. Hoping to diagnose Microvascular Dysfuntion/Angina with this test. Not able to do much movement at all atm as it brings on pressure in the centre of the chest even just walking 10 paces. On so many meds and none of them coming close to stopping/easing the squeezing which goes on throughout the day every day. Hope everyone else is doing ok :))

I don’t find it nearly as bad as I anticipated, so I hope it’s the same for you. I close my eyes when I go in the ‘tunnel’ and imagine I’m somewhere else. The drug mimicked exactly the angina symptoms I’d been getting, so it gave them very good information. Not totally pleasant, but very useful to the Docs.
I did no find the MRI bad at all, although I was anxious before it, the nurse gave instructions throughout which kept me from worrying. The test took an hour but did not seem as long. good luck, I have been diagnosed with Mircrovascular angina.

I have had 3 cardiac MRIs.
Each time I just closed my eyes, listened to the instructions and come out an hour later. It is noisy and you need to breathe in the way they tell you.
It feels a bit weird when the adenosine is injected but the staff talk to you all the time. The discomfort and breathlessness only last a few seconds.
It is a useful test to pick up Microvascular dysfunction.
Mine showed that all is well with my heart muscle despite my coronary vasospasms. It cannot pick up vasospasms.
Good luck
I just wanted to say a big thanks to you all for your advice and for sharing your experiences of having an mri stress test. I had mine yesterday evening. It wasn't pleasant but closing my eyes throughout really helped with the claustrphobic feelings and knowing what to expect also helped so thank you all!I have a 'sore' heart today, i really feel like I have put it through the wringer. Hope you are all feeling okay.
