I am after your thoughts, currently having talking therapy at my local Hospital, trying to overcome dread of second Heart Attack/Stroke, warned by Doctors to expect second of each at some time, therapist has suggested trying deep breathing exercises before reaching for my GTN spray, to see if that relaxes me, wife saying GTN spray given to you for a reason ( why take the chance)

Just wondered what you all think,

Blimey I am not surprised you are a bit twitchy! Have they said why and what if anything they can do about it?? Sounds a bit odd to me nobody has ever said they have been told this on here as far as I have seen. Is it worth getting further opinions or trying to find out more detail, it seems like a pretty broad and unhelpful statement to say that to you.

I agree with lateguitarist that it is a very unhelpful statement on their part. On one hand you have a therapist suggesting deep breathing, which is a positive step for lowering anxiety, and on the other you have the health professionals who have stirred anxiety for something that hasn’t happened, with little clarity behind their reasons. I would want to know exactly why they think I would have a second so that I could manage any runaway thoughts with a plan of action. I have used my spray in Times of anxiety, including when side effects from lansoprazole mimicked symptoms of an oncoming heart attack. My Gp said that the GTN would have no lasting problems, nor lose its effectiveness, so I used it frequently until trial and error revealed lansoprazole as the culprit. I would use it again if I felt the need. The only side effect were the occasional headaches after taking it and a drop in blood pressure, but you get used to it.

Thanks for your reply, regarding your statement ( would like to know why’d second h/a) this was the last thing the doctor said on my release from hospital, maybe it’s a scare tactic to get you to change your life style, same thing said to me after discharge from having a stroke, not the most optimistic of saying Be safe

Gtn spray first... Unless your cardio surgeon tells you otherwise

You hit the nail on the head with one phrase, ( is this the next one ) something that haunts me day after day, trapped wind ,any pain in my chest and my mind goes straight into that dark place, would really like to know how all the other members in the forum handle that scenario.Be safe
