Hi all. After having chest aches I was sent for an ecg which shows there is something not right. Doc reckons possibly Angina. Am really stressed about it. I called ambulance last night as it was getting painful. They were not concerned but suggested a trip to A&E. The pain eased after gtn spray and aspirin. I refused to go because I know it's awful. Probably 15 hour wait in room full of people with god knows what bugs. Should I contact doc about gtn spray to use while waiting for hospital appt to?

What you must do is : insist on Cardiologist Sorcialist appointment . HOWEVER LONG IT TAKES!! Get the scan they need to see to diagnose whole situation . Sorry I have to look up my hospital appt app to see correct name . ( Will update lately )

It is the only way . Honestly . Stop diagnosing yourself . Don’t expect G P to. ! By symptoms . You better be sure of heart chest symptoms to refuse A and E Visit . Can do with some other conditions if not too unwell . You need to know !

Once I saw the Cardiologist, he saw scan . He told me exactly what it was . Not as bad. Not AF . I honestly misdiagnosed myself !🥴🥴

What I always have had (periodic extra heart beat ) but if muscle thickening in some part , ( normal if 70 s )only take the med if symptoms ( more than one ) of that . He was correct .

I had stressful 6 months move , sleepy in morning dizzy . Went to SAME DAY EMERGENCY CLINIC for a day diagnosed blood tested heart scan entire body.

Nothing . They said stop take heart tablets , don’t need . ( my decision ).

stress stopped . Summer tree pollen stopped . Slept a lot , so far . Good .

APS Immune . Sinus .

MAYBE Vertigo , suggested by friends as nothing else left . not diagnosed but dizzy sleepy symptoms , easy fix with a tablet ‘ if symptomatic ‘ . Will suggest it and the simple vertigo mad I am reccomend as a fix and google . It’s the last condition not offered by general diagnosis clinic .

It was not my heart . Best thing is to get the scan , get a Cardiologist to look at your hearts behaviour ! If you cannot do LONG wait for NHS ( If in UK )get 1 private scan and Cardiologist . They only look at hearts . Operate on real hearts . Thousands of hearts . Diagnose hearts .!!!

We and G P are not heart Doctors. This is the BEST advise you can be given at this point .

You will worry and stress yourself into a heart condition if you do not get correct diagnosis . 😍

Thanks. I have just rang surgery to see if my referral to cardio has been done and they have said that referral can't be done until my bloods are done. Appointment for bloods is not until 10th January. Am no happy about that

Yes understandable. I had years of being given at home heart monitors (3 times ,) by hospital . but came up clear as , the extra heart beat issue was not occurring whilst wearing ! In the interim I was having heaps of other blood tests . For other things . Comes to mind , if me I would schedule a telephone appointment with your G P .

Reason : below and you need a referral to a Cardiologist . It is genuine and you cannot continue as you are . Polite but firmly !

1. Ask what specifically what that blood test regarding your heart issue would show ? In regards to your heart issue .

2 how long has your G P and yourself been dealing with your heart issue ?

3. Have you had any heart scans in hospital clinics .•••I had everything except the one I had for Cardiologist , all clear . Again timing .

I don’t have this extra heart beat regularly it’s random .

3. Politely point out this .

4. I only had the one Cardiologist appointment . ‘ The old age thickening in muscle ‘ was normal . In the scan he saw the random extra beat . He was very good ( of course ) . Was very reassuring . Back to G P for meds discharged from hospital clinic .i should have pushed years before . The repeating home 24/48 hour wearable heart monitor showed nothing . Not cold not stressed , no episode .

Just practice the words ‘ I NEED A REDRRAL TO A cardiologist , it has been going on for ? Years . Then say that , nothing else , repeat it to your G P on phone appointment . Ask what SPECIFICALLY the blood test would show ( heart related ) , is it necessary to Cardiologist referral?

Bear in mind very in demand speciality - Heart. On e you get past G P and referral , the hofoutal triage , process and appointment approval ( yes they get approved or refused . I have had other G P referral’s refused ) will take months . If you want to really know how long , call hospital booking and ask truthfully how long the wait can be . Could be more than 6 -9 .

If you cannot wait . Go the Private Cardiologist route .G P cannot reccomend . Google their profile . Adk friends . I can’t help on that .

That’s it 🙌

It's an RACPC ( rapid access chest pain clinic) so should be within 14 days under NHS. We shall see what they offer.

If severe pain and serious , it does get treated , but there is the NHS Pathway , it starts at G P , if she thinks it’s urgent you get referred as urgent , not wait hours along other minor complaints , at least in UCLH . G P referred me to SDEC SAME DAY EMERGENCY CLINIC , same floor as A & E . No eait , straight in start triage , with entire team . Blood tests, scans by 5 pm done. Other clinics / Specialists , you will receive appointments for that . Has your G P referred you to the SDEC /Fast PATHWAY type diagnosis clinic , where you go straight in or just go to A & E and just wait? My experience which on 2/3 urgent occasions , once admitted to hospital ward as septic ( I didn’t realise . My G P ref me straight there . No eait . It was a different section . It was and is brilliant . UCLH . Ask your G P on a telephone booking appt about that in your area hospital .

To get in the pathway you must start in the A & E or Urgent Diagnosis Clinic . If A & E go really early ! 7-8 am it was not crowded ever that I saw , crowds built up as morning went along.

You would be best to do this ASAP see how it goes before go Private. The Private Specialists do work for NHS anyway . Same . Good .

Take a flask a sandwich a cushion and a book . Either way you will have waiting to be done .

richard_jw profile image
richard_jw in reply toBloodredroses

It's a spray is used to relieve the symptoms of angina which is chest pain often caused by coronary arteries which are narrowed and restrict blood flow

if you can afford to see a private cardiologist first - do it. Once you are diagnosed the nhs will deal with it. Heart problems can’t wait you need to know now what’s going on. If you get really ill phone an ambulance and you will be wired up to a heart monitor and have scans in hospital to see whether it’s serious or not. I was having symptoms for years and nothing was done. I had 3 fainting syncope’s as well and they kept sending me to other departments and no one knew why it was happening! All they did in the heart department was check my lower legs for blood flow 5 times on different occasions and an angiogram and they were all clear but it doesn’t mean you haven’t got a heart problem. I have dilated cardiomyopathy and after 2 years of treatments and a CRT-D device fitted I now feel ok and back to normal life. Good luck and keep on until you get answers. It is scary looking things up yourself but I didn’t look at it in that way. I look everything up because when the professionals talk to me I already understand about the diagnosis they are talking about and can ask questions straight away instead of going away not knowing much then having no one to ask later on. You must get to the bottom of it. If you are absolutely sure you know your body and something is wrong if they say ‘there’s nothing wrong it’s just anxiety’ you must say ‘I know my body and I know there’s something wrong!’ That’s what I did even going privately to get somewhere and the echocardiogram showed heart failure! Good luck and hope you get a proper diagnosis soon. It’s also natural to have anxiety when you know something is wrong with you!

Yes you need the echocardiogram ASAP , it shows all parts of heart , that is what Cardiologist looks at diagnoses from . If I had severe or stressed as you are , I would not wait for NHS Honestly . Even if had an episode landed in emergent or Same Day Emergency Diagnosis clinic , and you had issue , if they booked referral it still would take months and months .

1. FIBD Good recommended researched Private Cardiologist , talk with his staff they will book you in for Privste ECG (ECHOCARDIOGRAM). Once these 2 are done you will feel very relieved . NHS is overburdened . We all realise that .
